Blacksad - Volume 1 - Somewhere within the shadows (The Blacksad)

The story isn't anything we haven't seen before in the noir genre, but the artwork makes this sing. The use of anthropomorphic animals makes the setting an eye-catching delight. Well worth a look.

I read this as fast as i could. It is a short tale and not many twists and turns, although there are some really good ones. Overall i enjoyed it, i just wish it wasn't over so quickly.

This book is simply amazing. The writing in superb, the characters are extremely interesting, the mystery keeps you guessing, and the noir element is just fantastic. I have read 4 of the 5 books in this series, and they just keep getting better and better do not sleep on this series

Good read! Very enjoyable so far, although a hair predictable. very curious to read the next episode! Love the art, especially a cat person like me.

This is a compelling story with a dynamic character. The artwork is so beautifully done. I love the elements of the story coming together and would totally recommend this book to new comic book readers.

I'm utterly speechless, this was an amazing story and I'm most definitely looking forward to reading the rest of them.

It got 3stars because of the price it's very short I wasn't expecting it too be that short it's shame as I won't be buying the others at those prices the story is good I have just finished the game so I know now what happend to his ex girlfriend but like I said the reason for the 3 stars is price for it it is short I would like to see it go down to may be 2 or 2.50 even 3 there about the right price I would think for the shortness of it sad really if you don't mind spending nearly 6 pound on it then that's up to you I wish I hadn't now there is others out there that was worth it should have gone with them graphics good story good just length an price lets it down

Most of this review is based on my first readings and thus most of what I say is mere enjoyment of a genre based comic novel. (So in a way, don’t expect a professional commentary)I wouldn’t have read the comic if it weren’t for the fact that there is a game based on Blacksad and thus sparked my interest to invest some time into buying the first novel on Kindle. After a few pages, I was amazed over the art style used to covey a 50s noir style background.While I did like how much detail is conveyed in each page to determine the next one, most of my enjoyment came from the story of an anthropomorphic cat detective (John Blacksad) seeking revenge after his ex-girlfriend (Natalia) gets murdered in her home.The story read like how a noir story is expected to be, but having to use racial tensions, profiling stereotypes and prejudices through animals instead of boring, dull humans.Using emotions through narration is expected and doesn’t disappoint as it delivers us to the next panel without any unnecessary filler words to fill in the comic. So it works.In the end, it continues the story of Blacksad and I will hopefully decide to read more, when I can be bothered.Most people would obviously recommend these to furries, but I highly doubt that most of the readers would be invested if one of the characters said “Rawr” or “OwO”. But that’s just me.I think it’s for people who want to read a story that had a “but what if” element to the comic. (But otherwise, if you’re into that stuff, there’s nudity. Take that how you will.)Anyway, I’m off to play the game. If you want a review on that, then just talk to your nearest gamer and ask what they think a Telltale game with animals would be like and you’ll probably have your answer.

I am absolutely in live with the art. It's so beautiful and I just want to stop at every page to analyse all the frames and backgrounds. Also, the story was pretty interesting. I loved the main character too.

Would recommend to fans of film noir.John Blacksad comes as hard boiled as any detective.Will continue to read more about Blacksad.
