Mungyo Water-Soluble Oil Pastel Set of 24 - Pearl Set Review: Very nice! - I bought this set of 24 Mungyo water soluble oil pastels and the corresponding set of matching pearl colors. The pearl colors are amazing, soft and lovely to work with. They are reminiscent of the Mungyo gallery soft artist line in creaminess and blending ability, they actually may be slightly softer than those. Really beautiful and still shimmery after adding water. The matching regular aquarelle set was completely the opposite, 16 of 24 of them were very hard, dry, scratchy and wouldn’t blend without water. I highly recommend the pearl colors but maybe skip the regular ones. Review: Ooh! These are like coloring with pearlescent lipsticks BUT when wet, BOOM, shimmery watercolor! - These are fun & like a budget friendly Caran Dache Neocolor II set (but shimmery too!). They're super smooth, but not mushy. The pearlescent shimmer really looks good too, not just a gimmick (they remind me of vintage cream makeup sticks my older sister had in the 70s). Once water is painted over these, they easily spread out into a shimmery watercolor look. How fun! The sticks are standard size with a conical/pointy end (like a kajal stick), not the dinky, pinky finger size sticks with flat ends, like in my Pentel set. They have a paper wrap "label" which helps keep hands clean, but keep in mind, these aren't intended for kids, so they may stain. I'm not sure if they'd need a fixative, since they are water activated oil pastels. Also not sure of their lightfastness. I plan to use these for fun, not actual "art". FYI, these are also not intended for coloring on skin & not intended as children's art supplies. I liked this set so much, I bought the set of regular/classic colors too & can't wait to try them out😍

Great Vibrant and sparly watercolor crayons
I have been using the non-pearlscent crayons product for 3 years. So decided to buy these as well. I love this product, great for both kids and adults. Review: The mungyo aquarelle pearlescent oil pastels are great for both art Journaling and filling the backgrounds in adult coloring books. These crayons are very soft. You can draw directly onto the paper but these work best as a watercolor paint, ie. Rub onto a palette and dissolve with water. A little goes a long way as they are quite vibrant and opaque. They do have mica type sparkle so great if you want a sparkle to the page without the mess of adding glitter. Blending is excellent if you do wet on wet watercolor technique. You can adjust the water to make it more vibrant. They do later up very well. Depending on your layering technique it makes the perfect sunset sky. These colors don't create mud when add too many colors at once. The colour range is the exact same as the normal mungyo aquarelle oil pastels set but with mica. I have both sets and they work well together. Paper should be greater than 150 GSM. They work well on cardstock, mixed media paper and watercolor paper. Keep in mind that paper may warp due to the water. Tape down first. My package was delivered in good condition inside a bubble wrap envelope. Since the crayons are soft the tips of some (4 of the 24 set) were broken off. They can snap if too much pressure is used., but even if they are broken they are still usable. Make a paint palette with the broken pieces. I love them and sure you will too.

Buttery smooth! Beautifully pigmented!
I can’t do these pastels justice but my review, but I will try. I’m not a fan of oil pastels normally, but these water soluble pastels can be used kind of like watercolor pencils, laying down the base of color and then melting them down with water, which is how I use them. They are so creamy and buttery smooth and very blendable. I honestly don’t understand how they aren’t way more expensive. The price is amazing and if you are just simply intrigued and not sure if you want to buy them, go for it. They are worth the money and so fun to play around with and create finished or rough pieces with. I imagine these might be great for younger artists, maybe ages 8 and up as well.

THESE ARE AMAZING!!!!
OH MY GOSH!! I AM SPEECHLESS ON HOW AWESOME THESE ARE!! THEY ARE SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!! THEY ARE SOFT FEELS LIKE COLORING WITH LIGHT FEATHER. AND THE PEARL COLOR ON THEM SO SHIMMERY!! ADDING WATER TO THEM THEY ARE AS AMAZING IN COLOR. IT IS A 2 FOR 1 DEAL!! SO WORTH THE COST! I REALLY WANT THEM TO MAKE A 48 COLOR OR A 72 COLOR SET. AND FOR PEOPLE WONDERING IF THEY HAVE A STRONG ODOR TO THEM...NOPE! I DON'T SMELL A THING WHEN WORKING WITH THEM. HOWEVER, THEY ARE A BIT MESSY SINCE THEY ARE SOFT. YOU WILL NEED TO WASH YOUR HANDS AND THERE MAY BE SOME CRUMBLY TINY PIECES THAT MAY FLAKE OFF OF YOUR ART. BUT DO NOT LET THAT STOP YOU FROM GETTING THESE AMAZING OIL PASTELS.

Smooth and pigmented
I had another set of oil pastels before I ordered this one. The others were some cheapies that I bought off of Temu. Those were miserable. They were nothing like these. These are soft and creamy and very pigmented. Now I understand why artists love oil pastels. These are a HUGE improvement over what I had before and they weren't really much more expensive. I think these are one heck of a bargain. They are great quality and very reasonably priced when you start comparing with other more well known brands. I honestly can't imagine why I would ever need another brand though. These Munyo Soft Oil Pastels are perfect!!

Very pigmented and work well as watercolors.
As a watercolor, they are WONDERFUL. They dissolve instantly with very little water, are very pigmented and have a subtle pearly sheen. As a soft pastel, however, in my opinion, not so wonderful. They are indeed soft, but to the point of being too thick and a bit sticky during application. When compared to other water soluble oil pastel brands like Crayola Portfolio, I found them very difficult to disburse with a blending stump no matter which kind of paper I used. I will keep them and use them, but not as soft oil pastels (which is a little disappointing since that's why I bought them).

Added a glowing feel to the sky for my otherwise acrylic painting
I've been teaching myself to paint for a couple months. I've loved the effects I can get with a watercolor sky, but they don't stick to the canvas well. I tried painting my skies with acrylic, but it just wasn't working out. I knew people paint with oil pastels, but I read up on it and found out you can't lay acrylic over oil pastels, but you can lay it over WATER SOLUBLE oil pastels. I'm not sure what these are made of, but they feel just like soft oil pastels. I can lay down a little color and use a wet brush, much like water colors. Also, although it was an accident that I bought the "pearl" set, the effect was awesome. It is what inspired me to ditch my original plan for a very dark and bland painting to a very colorful version of a Bloodborne inspired work. This was my first run with these, and like I said, I'm pretty new to all this and self taught (used to draw a lot but that was 10+ years ago). I plan to take what I learned working on this painting and see what other effects I can add with my water based mixed media paintings. I have been recommending these to friends and I plan to buy them again!

Pastels are a good value.
I found these to be more pigmented vs some pearlescent paints. But they were very messy when received--had to wash off bits of the oily pastel from all over the crayons & the base they sit in, especially at the tips of the pastels.
