This Hall Crystal Flute is handcrafted in Washington State, USA by flute maker James Hall. Starting with precision Pyrex glass tubing, it is sealed and carefully shaped to create a Boehm taper producing beautiful and accurate tones throughout its tonal range. After shaping and tuning the tone holes, the flute is decorated and kiln fired to fuse the decorations and insure durability. Each flute is a handcrafted work of glass art. This flute will arrive nestled in a classy foam lined dark-green storage box with gold stamped logo, along with a complete fingering chart. Free sheet music is avalible on the Hall Crystal Flute website. The Hall crystal flute is a folk or historical instrument and plays differently than a modern concert flute. The mouth hole has a raised edge and no lip plate. If you play the silver flute, this will take some time to get used to. The biggest difference is that you will need to place the flute higher on the lip and use a slightly tighter embouchure. Of course you can play any style of music you wish. Being a 6-holed flute it is well-suited for playing Celtic music and traditional tunes. It is also similar in design to the renaissance or baroque flute so is excellent for this as well.11091 Inline D Piccolo - Bristol CelticThe D Piccolo is our highest pitched and smallest piccolo. It makes clean crisp sounds; softer and mellower than the silver piccolo. Our Piccolos are great for small hands, for the fingering holes are placed close together making it easier to cover the tone holes. The piccolo, being a higher pitched instrument, requires a tighter embouchure then our larger flutes.Lowest Note: D5 - (one octave above middle C)Range: 2 OctavesChromatics: Yes - (Using half-holes)Primary Key : D - (no half holes necessary)Secondary Key: G - (no half holes necessary)Offset Tone Holes: No

Love it!
I was never able to make any notes in a side blown flute before, my older sister played the flute so I had quite a few chances to try in a silver plated flute. She also had a glass one from Halls our mom had bought her that she broke in the dishwasher after she got married. I had always thought it was pretty but my sister never let me get to see or hold that one. During Covid I learned to transcribe music, learned some music theory and I picked back up my childhood instrument, the oboe. The fingerings for oboe was close to the tin whistle in key of D, minus octave keys. So, I picked back up a tin whistle I bought long ago- from Star Trek The Inner Light inspiration, and was playing that well. Then I learned the glass piccolo in D has the same fingerings as tin whistle in D and my only hurdle would be blowing in the side. First day I got it, I made a sound in it, and I took out my tuner and I was in key on it. It’s a nice accomplishment of something I never expected I could do. It is a very pretty instrument and I am glad I purchased it.

Wonderful quality of product and sound
I was very skeptical ordering a piccolo online, but after receiving it, I am very pleased. The lily pattern and quality of the crystal is beautiful, and I received the piccolo very quickly (4 days) because it was shipped first class. If you're used to playing a piccolo not made of crystal, it will take some readjustment of your omnisure. It is a great piccolo, I am very happy with it.

This is the perfect recording instrument!
This instrument adds so much to the ambience and texture of any track. It sounds amazing and is very light. The tone is bright and airy.

Defective flute
The flute sent to me was defective (which was bad enough since it was a birthday present), but I had to pay for return shipping as well, which is like adding insult to injury.
