Sturdy, But Difficult to Assemble
I purchased this item to keep a 2 1/2 year old in his newly converted toddler bed (was a Delta crib). The instructions were confusing. I put it together, then had to completely disassemble it and start over. It would be helpful if the manufacturer had a video on their website or on YouTube or here on Amazon to show how to assemble.I found out the hard way that the provided screws to lock the guardrail in place on the opposite side of the bed are too short. They are supposed to insert through the bars and clamps and then fasten on the bottom with the provided wing nut. I tried everything but could not get the screw to fit through the bottom of the clamp. Eventually I went to my toolbox and found longer bolts that fit easily through both holes of the clamp and locked in place with the wing nut.The provided Velcro straps are a bit odd. Each strap works like a belt to secure the guard rail to the bed frame. But when I tightened and got ready to secure the Velcro, I found that I was trying to stick the smooth side to the smooth side (or the rough side to the rough side) which doesn't work. Not a big deal - I just twisted the strap around before trying to adhere it, which allowed for the smooth side to be facing the rough side of the Velcro. Again, easily corrected, but it would have been nice for this to be notated in the instructions.I find the hinged releases on either side of the guard rail (which allows you to lower the guard rail) are very difficult to unlock to release. Also, once the rail is lowered, it does not hang vertically and flush against the bed as depicted in the photos. Instead, in my instance, the guard rail hits the floor at an angle. We cannot leave the guard rail in that position since someone may trip over it. Given the earlier problem with the difficulty in releasing the locks on the guard rail, we'll just keep it in the upright and locked position.Once completed, when I was giving it the once over, the rail appeared to be sturdy, but the mesh seemed to be unattached. Once again, somehow I missed the instruction (if it's even in there) on sliding the horizontal bar through the mesh. Fortunately it was easy to correct the problem and now the mesh is tightly in place. It probably took a total of 2 hours or more to put together - mostly spent trying to fit the too-short screws through the clamps. Now that it's fully and properly assembled (I hope) and installed, the guard rail appears sturdy and ready to do it's job.So my 3-star review is a combination of 1-star for poor instructions and not providing the proper sized bolts, and 4-stars for the assembled product.(even though it has not been used yet - it appears as though it will be fine). The average is 2.5 stars, so I rounded up :-)

the worst installation system I've ever encountered
This product has, by far, the worst installation system I've ever encountered. You're supposed to install it on the crib frame, using two "C"-shaped metal pieces (see pictures). The problem is that 1) it's really hard to close the gap on the metal piece so that the screw goes through it entirely, 2) the screw is too short, 3) the wing bolt is the wrong piece to use there because you have a corner right under it and the base of the wing bolt is too wide, so you can't screw it onto the screw. I have a Delta crib, and if you have one too be prepared to be creative. In the first picture you see a dark scratch on the metal piece. That's from me trying to screw the wing bolt over the corner of the metal piece. It just doesn't work, not enough space. In the second picture I'm pressing the metal piece with all my strength, and there's only a tiny part of the screw coming out. Doesn't work either (see picture 3).In the fourth picture I'm using a channel plier lock (!) to close the metal piece over the screw. The wing bolt seems to have fit on the screw, but it didn't. There's just no enough of the screw for the wing bolt to lock on it.In the final picture I give up and use one of the screws that came off of the crib after removing the front wall. Works much better. And in case you're wondering, that long screw will be on the bottom side of the frame. So it will be pointing towards the ground under the crib, and not towards the mattress. They have it on the manual a solution for a "bulky frame" like mine which I didn't like. They could've solved this problem by simply providing screws that were 1/2 an inch longer. It seems like the person who thought about this system never actually tried to install it. It just doesn't make sense to me.Other than that, the product works well and seems very sturdy after installed. I have no concerns about whether it can hold my son safely during the night. Also, it's good that you can place it wherever you like along the frame. You can place it right on the center, or place it more towards the pillow side (like I do) so that you have a wider opening near the foot side. It's nice to have that flexibility (not all competitors have this option). My son is very happy that now he can sneak out of his crib and knock on my door during the night. Fix the installation system and it will deserve 5 stars.

WITH FAILURE, COMES SUCCESS!
Ordered this because my 3-year old son was ready for a regular bed...First two days was an easy transition - No issues. He would still sleep slightly leaning on the safety rail, but I was confident because when I set it up per the instructions, the pressure and locking pins seems to be just right...Third night, I hear a thud.... yep, my son fell. I ran to see if he was okay and there he was, just sitting up on the floor holding his head. "Dad, I fell. I hit my head on my cwib," he said. I looked to see what was the issue: it appeared as if the locking pins popped out because the arm just came off. It wasn't broken or anything, the socket/plug arm just unclipped...Overall, because the rail failed, my son stopped leaning on the rail, so... SUCCESS!!! The rail helped my son to stop leaning against the crib rails. Yeah my kid took a spill, but overall it helped.FYI: The rail has held up ever since. No more accidents to report.

A GREAT way to transition from a crib to a toddler bed
This works reeeeeeally well for my son (2 1/2 yrs.). We installed it nearly 6 months ago, and have had no problems with it at all. It's very sturdy, withstanding my son's insistence to get into bed every night by crawling over it rather than around (lol!). It's easy for him to crawl in or out on either side of it though, when he chooses to. Often at night as he flops around he ends up resting against it or kicking it, and it's stayed sturdy and secure. This has been a great way to transition him to a toddler bed. The toddler bed rail that the crib company makes to transition from crib to bed is pretty, but way too expensive, and so short I don't think it would really do any good. This is a breathable, sturdy, much less expensive solution. We are all very happy with it!

Great barrier for the bed
Great barrier for the bed. Bought it for my son's crib after conversion to a day bed configuration. Big enough to prevent him from falling out at night but allows him space at the edge to get in and out like a big boy. Installation is sturdy as it screws into the metal frame supporting the mattress in the crib. Very secure and does not move.

... well built and the mesh material is soft yet sturdy and makes no sound when contacted
The product is well built and the mesh material is soft yet sturdy and makes no sound when contacted. The hardware included seemed to fit every crib but ours. However the problem was quickly solved by using zip ties to hold the arm brackets to the bed slats. hardware for slats were included but our slats were slightly recessed and failed to match up 100%. ultimately it fit our needs and is secured to the bed.

Perfect length for use with crib mattress!
I bought this to use with my sons crib mattress on the couch in our RV and it was the perfect size and kept him safely in his bed! Note if you buy this for this purpose or any other use outside the crib you will need to anchor it down so it won't move (we ratchet strapped it to the couch and it worked perfectly!).

Doesn't fit my crib
This product is advertised as fitting any crib. Well, it doesn't fit mine. I can't neither attach it properly, nor does it normally fit into the crib itself. It doesn't have dimensions on the site, so a complete waste of money.

and was easy to install
Solid purchase. It fits well, and was easy to install. The only thing I don't really like is that it makes the mattress a little wonky, since the bars sit underneath. My son isn't bothered though, and loves his new freedom.
