Just wasn't -my- particular cup of tea
Road House is a 1989 American action film directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze as a cooler at a newly refurbished roadside bar who protects a small town in Missouri from a corrupt businessman. Sam Elliott co-stars as a bouncer, the mentor, friend, and foil of Swayze's character. The cast also includes Kelly Lynch as Swayze's love interest and Ben Gazzara as the main antagonist. If I had to use one word to describe this film it would be this: MESSY. Is this a drama? Not really. Is this an action movie? Sort of. Is it a romance? Barely. The overall plot deserves props due to its good-intending messages regarding greed, but it is woven together by scenarios and characters that ultimately feel like they’ve been forced to share the same space with one another; this is so prevalent in fact that Swayze’s character (Dalton)- whom we are convinced has the strongest will when it comes to ending corruption - is painted as someone that seems randomly motivated to complete this task. This could have been resolved easily through some amount of meaningful insight regarding Dalton’s past, but even that was denied throughout the entirety of ‘Road House.’I expected a certain amount of the scenes in this film to be preoccupied with drama and action, but the pace in which these moments were introduced and ended had a disruptful flow to them. If I didn’t know any better, I would presume that the director had a timer on set and whenever it went off the characters had to stop whatever they were doing and just brawl their little hearts out; If I said i didn’t enjoy these moments that would be a complete lie, but the randomness of it all begins to make them cumbersome as the viewing experience continues on.I’m tired of complaining, so I will say that ‘Roadhouse’ has one significant strength that many films like it are lacking: the presence of Mr. Swayze himself. Dalton is equal parts gritty and soft; he’s everything most traditional males want to be and everything most traditional females could hope to have as a partner. This chaotic mess of a film could not have chosen a better actor to act as an anchor for a ship that at times seems to have been simply abandoned at sea. If I recommend this viewing for anything, it’s a glorious reminder of the talent and legacy Swayze left behind when he passed away.All-in-all, ‘Roadhouse’ has everything you could want out of a classic 80s film - including those cheesy one-liners that might make you want to roll your eyes.Regardless, the proof is in the pudding and I suspect people with a taste for rumbling will enjoy this film particularly.P.S: Alternative names for this film could have been ‘People Picking Fights With Sam Elliot For No Reason’ or ‘Does Patrick Swayze Just Not Own A Shirt?’.Thank you for reading!

What Film used to be: 5star Disc, 4 star movie!!
A long time ago when Film was exciting, entertaining & where you escaped reality, Films like this were released by the bucket load. One of them which was released in 1989 was this - Rowdy Herrington's Modern day Action packed Western,Road House, a drifter comes into town to clean up a hellhole of a club of which the club is run by locals who control the police & everyone else of which one powerful man rules with his goons backing him up. Dalton, played by the late Patrick Swayze has other ideas as he is paid to take out the trash!Fights, violence, shoot outs, swear words, stunning hot adult women, & sex make this one of my favourite movies & is a very good Film, as I watch it even more Director - Rowdy Herrington deserves a lot more of respect than he gets from critics, & other media sources who pan this movie. Well I will say this to people who hate this movie - this is a proper movie of which Film used to be & in my view still is, I can't stand these poor adaptations of comic books onto the big screen!I've given this 2 disc collectors edition from Shout Factory 5 stars because the release has nearly everything on the 2 discs, good, solid picture & sound & a lot of special features including - feature length making of documentary, audio commentaries, other small docs & other stuff make this a fantastic release! To anybody who doesn't own this classic near gem of a movie then I recommend this collectors edition of Rowdy Herrington's Road House!Great stuffshout factory!

a classic--Dalton the only bouncer who can't feel pain and is shirtless 90% of the time
I purchased this for the audio file from Rifftrax to play along with the movie. It is easy to sync it up with thew movie. Get ready for Tinker, Ben Gazzera in disco boots, fat men fighting, hillbilly fighting, and of course the 80's.Prepare yourself for Sam Elliot starring as himself being super 80's Elliot.Get ready for horrible covers of Roadhouse Blues and Traveling Band- played by a band behind a caged fence. Watch the main character Dalton define Philosophy--"mans place in the universe and that kind of s**t". Watch Dalton bust out top notch comebacks such as "your too stupid to have a good time".This movie is hilarious even without the riffs. Watch Ben Gazzera lose all of his dignity he so solidly set in stone with Cassevetes. Watch the main character in sweatpants and no shirt for 90% of the movie .. Oh and did i mention Tinker.

Blu-ray review
Played in English straight out of the box despite it being a german copy. The quality is good and the sound is good as well but not the sharpest transfer to blu-ray but then neither the worst either. The sound was also clear and with about the right balance from the back speakers for all the music tracks but the rest of the sound was average. Compared to the DVD which when I checked it, turned out to be very good it's a marginal upgrade from the DVD except you get the smaller blu-ray case of the newer slimmer type, albeit in red.
