Organic Cayenne Powder 160K H.U. 1 Lb (453 G) - Starwest Botanicals

I'm a "hot freak" and this is my go to cayenne. Many do not realize that certain grades of cayenne can be about as hot as the hottest. It's in the heat level so pay attention to that. The cu in this is very high so it is not for the faint of heart. There are lower levels if you do not like it extreme. Starwest botanical is a wonderful brand and I'm glad I can get it from amazon now. I ordered directly from star west for years. Love this stuff!

Awesomely hot cayenne powder! I cut mine with organic ginger in homemade capsules and they work well.

it was very hot which i hoped for but the smokey flavor sucked. i liked the 90k hu better.

Have always been a loyal customer of Starwest but when I ordered this cayenne pepper powder, I received Chili pepper powder.

The powder I received had a strong smokey odor, was a dark burgundy color, and was not as hot as it should be. These are all characteristics of powder that has been over-heated during processing which also destroys many of the healthful aspects. It did have a little heat (somewhere above grocery store cayenne and below or near 90HU powder) and the smokey flavor was actually pleasant in small doses so this might work for some people but using enough to get the heat I was looking for made the flavor over-powering (or over-powdering).I was more looking for health benefits rather than seasoning so I ended up buying some ground super-hot peppers from a private grower. I got a bit less than half the amount for about the same price as this from the private grower but I only need 1/4 as much as I would have used if this had full power so I came out quite a bit ahead going that route.
