Many Uses
I ordered this after having total knee replacement and finding out after I got home that I could not get in my bed by myself. I am short (5'1") and my bed is high. I can't sit down on it, so I have always put one knee on the bed and climbed in. Not with a newly replaced knee!My other problem was that we had recently bought a king-sized adjustable bed for a small fortune, so I hd to find some way had to work with that. I ordered a bed rail, along with this step stool that has a handrail. Using the step stool and the rail, I am quite independent getting in bed.One other problem that arose when I came home from the hospital the fact that we have an SUV and a pickup truck, both of which require me to climb in. Impossible to do with the newly operated on knee. Solution: the stepping stool. When the step stool was placed beside the passenger door, I stepped easily into the car. On arrival, I didn't need it to get out. When I begin driving again, I won't be able to use it, as someone has to put it in the car before I leave. It's a good temporary fix until I drive again.I will be prepared to come home from the hospital when I have my other knee done in May. Those first few days won't be as miserable as this time around now that I have everything in place for recovery. The only other thing I recommend is to have a grab bar in the shower. We chose one that looks like a shelf for shampoo and other bathing supplies. It is useful for both storing supplies in the shower and lending stability to someone who is not steady on their feet- and it doesn't look so old-folkish.

RUGGED - SAFE - ATTRACTIVE
This is a very well built steel stool. My large feet (both) fit comfortably on the rubber tread platform; and the sturdy support handle gives a secure feeling when stepping up or down. While it is relatively light... it does weigh 7 1/2 pounds, so if you have trouble lifting a 10# bag of sugar you may want to check something made of aluminum. We keep it in the pantry for added reach to the top shelves and quickly totes out to the kitchen for top cabinet searching. If you really need the greater support in getting on and off, then a folding stepladder might be better (it does only have one side support grip and if you have poor balance - you might need something else)If you are in need of an aid in popping in an out of bed then the "Drive Medical Adjustable Height Home Bed Assist Handle" has proven to be a valuable help in affording a safe grip at bedside. It is helpful in getting out of bed and also in useful to scoot around in the bed. It does not have a step, but if all you need is a strong, convenient, bedside, cushioned, "handle" this could be it. It may need to be adapted for some higher mattresses but the AMAZON reviewers explain well.

The footstool went together very easily and I feel very secure when I use it
The footstool went together very easily and I feel very secure when I use it. I just purchased a new bedroom suite and did not realize that when my mattress and springs were put on, I would be unable to get in the bed. I have MS and have some balance issues. I was using a footstool that was not high enough so I had to step on it and sort of jump on the bed. Very scary! This footstool is the perfect height for me to step on it and then sit on the bed. the handle gives me the security I need so I don't fall. I went for the heavy duty model as I felt it would give me a better feeling of security and was worth it.

i received this product with one knob not on the leg of the stool. We really need the black knob that goes on the leg. The package that was delivered by ups was almost complete opened. The product itself was very well built and should last along time if you have all the pieces. Not having one of the back knobs on the leg will makeit unsafe to use.

5 stars is not enough
This has been the very best purchase I've ever made for my mom. Rather than replace her too high bed, we tried this wonderful footstool. She's now got confidence that she can get in and out of bed without slipping, falling, or sliding off the bed. This is a sturdy, simple to assemble footstool that would get 10 stars from my mom.
