The Current and the Cure (The Water and the Wild)

Tore the box open and blew through this book as fast as I could. I loved the first two books of this trilogy, and I think The Current and the Cure is a great follow-up and end, of sorts... But, the world(s) that Ormsbee has created, and left with us, is so very vivid, the characters so articulated and alive, that this isn't a story you can just shut like a book in your mind. There are soooo many more tales to tell in this world! So many more stories that I, the reader, just KNOW are happening even beyond what Ormsbee has written. I wish this could be the third of MANY books that follow Lottie and her friends through the worlds!Once again, this book has Lottie and her pals grappling with some big issues - issues that us Earthlings grapple with throughout our lives. Good lessons for young and old alike. Just fantastic dialogue and interactions between the characters in this book! The dialogues are longer, a bit more meandering, but for all that the path of the interactions seems very natural, lending even more depth to these characters. She reveals some, but not all, of what some characters are thinking, and hints at further inner journeys to be taken by some of these people, if you squint. Something particularly lovely is the emphasis she places on the importance of friendship.Super excited about this young author - I'll be keeping an eye peeled for more of her books. She's sharp, entertaining, creates wonderful role models, and has a gift for getting to the meat of some very important things.

My daughter adores this series. Magic fun! Totally worth the purchase.

Glad I thought to look if this had come out - my daughter loves this series so much. So much, that she keeps it secret from her friends (I've tried to explain that is not a great method for supporting an author you want to see more books from!). Now the question is whether to keep it a surprise until Christmas or not.
