Dunham Men's Cloud Waterproof Boot Backpacking

This is actually my second time purchasing this product because it's honestly fantastic. I had everything I'm looking for my husband's foot needs. He wears a 4E width shoe and for anyone who has the same struggle you can appreciate how difficult it is to find something fashionable, functional, and comfortable. Usually you have to narrow down to one option alone, but these are crushing it in every way. His last pair lasted him 4 years of hiking and work before he fully wore them out. He does heavy wear with his outdoor job. Serious I gave it 5 stars and again if you struggle with finding wide shoes the X-wide option should workout good.

Two-year update : I have abused the heck out of these boots for two solid years, and though they are showing a lot of wear, they are still very comfortable, and support my feet while I'm putting long days as a tradesman. I still wear insoles, and am on my second pair of laces. fabulous value.Original review: I bought these nearly a year ago. I read the reviews and paid close attention to the sizing issues many people seemed to have had. I normally wear a size 15EEE, so I ordered 16EEEE. Yes, quadruple E. They fit me just a tiny bit big, which was fine, as I fill the space with heavy hiking socks and Dr. Scholl's 440 orthotics. I am 6'7", 350, very active, and I ruin shoes. NB crosstrainers don't hold up, nor do Nikes or anything else I've tried. I got these to wear for some serious urban hiking in Washington D.C. I took them on a two mile break-in walk before my trip. The break-in was completely unnecessary. These boots felt dreamy. My feet are normally killing me after the shortest of walks. I easily walked 5 miles a day for three days across ice, concrete, and snow. My feet stayed warm, and I experienced none of the usual leg, foot, ankle fatigue that usually plagues me. I since have taken them on many trail hikes in Southern California with great results. I also use them for lots of street hiking, have tromped through snow, spent hours on ladders. I went on a few backpack training hikes with 50lb packs (that's 400lbs on those shoes), and always felt stable and comfortable I did not do any serious mountaineering, nor off-trail talus-slope slogging or anything crazy like that. If you have wide feet and are looking for a lightweight, comfortable trail boot, you might give these a try. I'm an experienced hiker, and have had Kastinger, Vasque, Ecco, REI, and a half dozen other boots. None have been close to this comfortable, even if they had a higher technical pedigree. If I were younger and in shape, I'd take these off trail. The only visible wear has been one broken lace. I will definitely buy another pair and rotate them to prolong their life.I wish they made a low-cut version of these, because I would truly never ever take them off.

I like these shoes. They are right on size-wise and appear to be well-constructed. They are warmer than most types of shoes like this that I have tried. The color is great. The speed lacing is great. They are comfortable right out of the box.The only thing I don't love is the tread. It is very aggressive (?) - it has a rough tread that loves to load up on mud. The mud stays in there until you scrape it out. Once the mud fills in the tread the traction is severely impaired. This is a problem with a lot of hiking boots or shoes. If only someone could make a self-cleaning tread then we'd have a definite 5 star shoe.

I am 215 lbs with hard to fit feet (13 4E) and I love hiking. An injury to my lower leg left me with permanent nerve damage and a challenge to find orthotics and footwear for the past 40 years or so. These boots are amazing in fit and quality. I purchased a pair in May of 2017 and tested them out around town. These are the kind of shoes that when you slip your foot into for the first time you know right away that they are "the ones". Subsequent hikes in the Oregon and Washington Cascades gave me the confidence to take them on treks in the Alps and Himalayas. Carried a twenty pound pack on steep up and downhills are no problem. No blisters ever. The insoles that they came with slip out and I can use my custom orthotics instead. The lacing is quick and logical and allows one to adjust tension for up or down hill. I wear merino wool socks with a thin liner over. A sock company in New England makes the best socks on the planet. Good match for these boots. With several hundred miles of trails on these there is no sign of any wear or degradation. The soles are not overly aggressive but provide excellent grip on rock and dry trails. The tread does not hold dirt or mud and self cleans. On very muddy or slippery trails one may want a boot with more lugs. The waterproofness worked for awhile stepping through water several inches deep but eventually this feature broke down slightly as can be expected with the abuse I gave these on the trails. They are also very good looking and can be worn around town. I really appreciate shoe makers who cater to the ends of the bell curve on foot size. Have been a New Balance fan for years for this reason. Also own New Balance 990 V4. Fantastic shoe that I will review as well. One other thing. I found out that boot laces become imbedded with grime which causes friction through the lace lugs making it difficult to adjust the lace tension. A new pair of laces for about two dollars in a shop in Kathmandu was like having a new set of tires. I washed the old pair and kept them in my pack as a spare.All in all would definitely buy another pair but I don't think I can wear these out.

Dunham boots are great for people with feet and high insteps. They’re not easy to find so it’s great to have them available online

I have been wearing these boots for over 10 years, and recently purchased a replacement pair from Amazon. Great price, great fit and delivered right to my door!

They give good traction and comfort during my long and fast-paced walks.

The quality of this shoe is on par or better than most of the major hiking shoe brands on the shelf. I can see why other reviewers say this shoe has lasted a long time - it makes a big difference if the shoe fits properly and is comfortable. Given the comfort and weight of this shoe, it's probably my favorite for most kinds of trekking.

It is comfortable but it started to squeak within a week when walking after just a few wear. It looks like the sole is not properly glued to the main shoe. Really disappointing. Is there a way I can get this fix?
