READ INSTRUCTIONS....don't follow the part about smearing in animal's mouth! CRUEL!
I ordered this because my dog had minor surgery on her paw and kept licking the scab off.YES...it is bitter and GRUESOME....I tested it on myself as I do almost everything before I give it to my BELOVED animals....I could not get the taste out of my mouth, it was utterly disgusting! And I barley touched the tip of my tongue to it! I had to brush my teeth multiple times to get the terrible bitterness to subside.I TOTALLY realize that this is what this product should do, keep an animal from wanting to lick any place that this has been applied to.What I DEEPLY and emphatically object to is the instructions on the tube that say:FIRST APPLY TO PATIENT"S TEETH AND/OR HARD PALATE. (to accentuate unpleasant experience.)I find this HIGHLY cruel and UNACCEPTABLE! Trust me, the first time they take a lick of this on any area it has been applied towill be enough!Don't be surprised to find your animal foaming from the mouth if you follow those terrible instructions and deliberatelysmear it in their mouth. CRUEL!

Doesn't work for incessant lickers/chewers
I can vouch for how horrible this stuff tastes. Accidentally got some on my thumbnail and didn't know it until much later, even though I had washed my hands. However, my dog didn't seem to care. He probably didn't like the taste of it, I can't imagine anyone would, but it did not stop him from licking himself to death. It would probably work fine if you were trying to get your dog to stop chewing furniture or something, but if you have a dog who licks himself incessantly, this probably isn't going to stop him. There's probably an underlying reason he's licking or chewing. Giving my dog a Zyrtec twice a day has stopped these actions. I'm giving a 4 star rating because it DOES taste horrible like it's supposed to, it's VERY thick, I put some on a q-tip and the product strings between the tub and the q-tip (like pizza cheese when you pull a piece away from the pizza), and it's VERY hard to wash off. I do think it would for most instances, just not in the case of my itchy dog.

Pricey, but works well.
I ordered this Yuk Forte and received the tube within 2 days (and free), so thanks Amazon Prime. For $12 this is pretty pricey given the size of the tube I received. I had used the other Yuk gel product in a similar size tube but it's much cheaper. Here are some initial thoughts:1) Works initially just as well as the Yuk2e gel - the trick I learned is to put some in the dog's mouth before applying it to the area affected. They remember that first taste and I have to say there are immediate results in terms of stopping the chewing both on the dog and on pieces of furniture (carpet fringe has been rescued!)2) It has a smell of citronella to it when you open it it up. I think the smell is a training mechanism as it helps reinforce the horrible taste.3) This is much thicker and much stickier gel - it reminds me of heavy syrup in terms of consistency. Makes it a bit more work to apply and spread around a suture site. Be careful getting this stuck on fur, it almost acts like glue.4) It doesn't wash off easy - I did get some on my hand and because I was doing work, didn't wash it off immediately. Once it dries, it is very hard to scrub off. Warm water and lots of soap.I'm giving it 4 stars for now because of price and the stickiness making it harder to apply. Once I get a few more days of use, I'll update if things change. UPDATED to 5 stars as I have now used it on multiple occasions and have had wonderful results each time. Just be careful not to taste it! Oh my goodness, it could be some of the most awful tasting stuff ever...

Completely ineffective for my German Shepherd
I have a German shepherd who is licking her paws a lot. I applied it according to the instructions (including putting some on her upper hard pallet the first time). I applied it to her paws and it didn't stop her licking them. I tried re-applying over the course of a few days, and it still didn't help.I then tried a small blob of it on a spoon and offered it to her. She happily lapped it up.

TINY, and I do mean TINY, tube
Works great but the tube is VERY small. Would have rated higher if it a larger tube. . Also I wish they had a spray version for certain.applications

Wouldn't Recommend
Abnormally sticky consistency, very very hard to apply to a bandage, stuck on my fingers like super glue and wouldn't wash off. Worked to stop licking, but super inconvenient.

My mistake
Trying to prevent chewing, I bought this product to try. It's not for chewed areas, plus seems to form a barrier which I had been advised to avoid. After cone wearing,it was clearly a growth which required surgery. Despite her age, she made it through.
