Fine children's literature some parents and teachers could learn from
More relatable as a fable than the Ant & the Grasshopper. More memorable than a math textbook. Most adults I know could learn a few lessons from the story, too!

good
Great book for teaching kids about planning ahead and making short term sacrifices for long term gain. Good read until the ruin it at the end by praying...seemed like the book was about self reliance but ended with superstitious non-sense

I highly recommend this book to any Math teacher!
What a great educational book about patterns! I teach middle school and will be using this to promote literacy in the Math classroom. I read the book to the kids, and the students will analyze in order to find the pattern as well as write the pattern in algebraic expressions!

My own children loved the counting book
Anno's number books--beginning with "Anno's Counting Book"--belong in the library of every child---and school. My own children loved the counting book, and now I'm giving the others to my grandchildren as well. Math is good!

Math plus magic, and a little more
We loved this book. We got it from the library when my grandson was 5 and a lover of all things mathematical, as well as all things Anno. At first the story appears to be a tale about geometric progression, how quantities multiply: You get magic beans, 2 x 2 = 4, eat one, plant 3. Next year 3 x 2 = 6, eat one, plant 5. Next year 5 x 2 = 10, and so forth. But then the man gets married, so now there are two people to eat seeds. Still the progression continues. But man does not live on mathematics alone. There are human elements to the book that lift it out of the realm of textbook and almost to myth. This book is not for everyone. Not all children enjoy mathematical concepts, and of those who do, not all of them will get this. But Anno's combination of higher math made simple, plus the love that infuses the simple story make this book a timeless treasure for those who get it.

Enjoyable math tale & more
It can be challenging to find literature that works in a math class, but this one does. Aside from the math I use it to teach students about desire (Jack deciding he wanted more than the two seeds) and the sacrifices we often will need to make if we really want something different for ourselves.

Annos magic Seeds book
Bought as an introduction to multiplication and problem solving combined. It certainly made my class think.it is a nice starter and something you can go back to or use to extend thinking.

tres bien!
