Fusion Fly Tying: Steelhead, Salmon, and Trout Flies of the Synthetic Era Hardcover – September 15, 2015

Do you steelhead? Do you chase anadromous fish? Meaning, do you go to big water and use a two hand rod to try to catch steelhead, salmon, dolly varden, and other fish? If you do and you tie your own flies, you really should own this book. Simple patterns like the Artificial Intelligence and the Slim Shady are included. Just those two flies alone -- if you have differing colors of flashabou -- can yield a box full of great steelhead and salmon patterns. Most of Senyo's flies are that way: they are extremely easy to tie in a variety of colors and sizes depending on your needs. The Stray Dog, for example, looks like a classic salmon fly in the end, and can be tied in a variety of colors which will catch fish. The Beach Bum, a simple large fry pattern, can be changed in size and color to be a deadly early season dolly varden fly or a late season coho salmon fly. In the end, Senyo has written a book full of very successful patterns using synthetic materials all with great photographs and clear instructions (with only a few typos here and there and some editor funkiness with some page spacing!). This is not a book if you are fishing midges and using dry flies in West Yellowstone. But if your fishing does include swinging big flies for big anadromous fish, this book is the best available.

Great instructions and photos, but does not show how or where the hook is tied into these flies. Many of the materials must be ordered on-line as they are specific Senyo products. The dubbing is worth a buy and can be used on many other patterns.

I just got back into tying and designing flies in a big way, and I was looking for something new and radical for inspiration. This book pretty much is exactly that.From what I gather the premise seems to Greg's blending of natural and synthetic materials in addition the blending or traditional and non-traditional methods. This is a big book, 95% of it is discussion of each fly and detailed photos and instructions.If you're looking for some interesting new ties for Trout, Salmon, Steelhead, Smallmouth and Pike, or just a boatload of new tricks to add quality to your bag of tricks then this is a must get.

This book is chuck full of innovative ideas from Greg and many others. It opened a very large can of worms for my smallmouth game with all the new innovative articulated patterns. People are really doing some amazing stuff with Fly patterns right now and this would be a great book to help catch up and build your fly arsenal. I also like the little bit of background on each fly. And it's pretty thorough on the tying aspect also. I would say it's a great read for any fly fisherman especially fresh water because it covers about all species.

Pretty flies but way too heavy on materials. Many of the patterns Call for 30+ Items, most of witch you will not have in your kit. Best for Hareline stockholders.

Greg Senyo has amassed a comprehensive encyclopedia of flies that are demonstrated clearly and concisely in an easy format for any level of fly tyer. Over time Greg has engineered a plethora of materials that have revolutionized the way a variety of patterns have been constructed, and he clearly articulates how to use them in this book. A must read and must have addition to anyone's library

Great book

Greg Senyo has knocked this book out of the park! I really like his design sense, the quality of his writing, tying and photography. I may not tie flies exactly like his but I will incorporate some of his ideas and techniques.Rick N

Excellent book and it is easy to find equivalent fly materials. Photo and instructions are good and the book is full of well described pattern (step by step) for a salmon fly book. Not like some other books with drawing or only half the book containing step by step patterns.

Well i got this and the other intruder book this book is full of great info much better than that other book i was amazed that they both cost the same as this is about 100 times better and i am not just saying that great photos step by step how to tye loads of fly just a right good book as i say when i looked at to i can not get over paying the same for both books so do your self a favour save money get a better book learn about the flies and loads of other stuff if you want to learn about these differt type of intruder type flies this is the book for you buy this fusion fly tying not intruder essentials get what you pay for
