Fat Cat Art: Famous Masterpieces Improved by a Ginger Cat with Attitude

Petrova's cat is cute, but Herbert's cat is a beaut!
When Petrova's fine art and ginger cat pictures are compared to Susan Herbert's painted cats in masterpieces, Herbert's Cats Galore is superior. Both are enjoyable, but Herbert displays more artistic skill.

Everything is improved by a ginger cat!
I first discovered Svetlana Petrova's Fat Cat Art through her version of Dali's Persistence of Memory, which I loved. I wanted to buy a print of it, but the shipping charges from Russia were more than I was willing to pay. Recently I found tiny card versions of Fat Cat Art in a museum shop - these were too small to be of use but it prompted me to see what Amazon had, and I found this book. The book is much longer than most "cat books", and a lot of Petrova's works are reproduced, along with commentary by Zarasthrusa the Cat. The book is rather small in size, but the reproductions are large enough to enjoy, and I liked the "background details" offered on many of them. My only complaint, really, is that many of the pages of the copy I received were incompletely cut, requiring me to carefully separate the pages.I found Fat Cat Art to be enjoyable, and well worth what is being asked for it.

Monet meets meme
This is probably the most delightful art history book in history--the perfect marriage of artist and mews. Artist Petrova is amazingly talented. Mews Zarathustra is a charming (typically feline) and cooperative (atypically feline) model and informative if perhaps not entirely reliable narrator of the history of art. He explains why Mona Lisa is smiling (she's holding a kitty, duh!) and answers the burning question of "do cats like flowers? (not as much as food, duh!), and rights history's many wrongs in its exclusion of cats' roles in world events. Purrfect for the art lover or cat lover in your life. And it may convert the non-art lover and non-cat lover! While the size of the book itself is small, the quality of the pictures is outstanding. You can see a lot of detail and the colors are excellent. And there are a TON of pictures. The book is about 300 pages long, and there's a picture on just about every other page. The author and publisher clearly cared about quality. The price is a real bargain.

Zara is clearly a cat of infinite poses that work wonderfully with each piece
Simply stunning in the amount of time and detail that goes into each piece of work. Reading about Zara's beginnings, and how he helped save Svetlana, makes for an even deeper appreciation of how important they are to each other. Always hilarious, Zara is clearly a cat of infinite poses that work wonderfully with each piece.Again, the detail in each piece is staggering - Svetlana likes to work with the original size pieces, replicating them as closely as possible to the originals (and even being called out by security for attempting to smuggle masterpieces). The tenderness and care of each piece replicates that of the original artist, and her (and Zara's, of course) genius shines through.Of course, if you really want to, you can just enjoy this book as classical paintings with funny cats in them - but there's so much more to appreciate once you dive in!

Bought for all of my friends!
This book is entertaining and meaningful at the same time. At first, I thought it was funny to have the cat photoshopped into these classical works of art. I have cats and love memes. Then I realized the amount of time the author put into this. She captured the right poses and clearly has genius level graphics skills. Finally, I read the backstory, and it touched me... we all have our own ways of dealing with grief and her story brought me to tears. I ended up buying copies for all of my friends to support the author... and her cat :)

We *heart* FCA (that’s Fat Cat Art)
I learned about Fat Cat Art while sat in a dentists waiting room of all places. Initially I found the concept quirky, engaging enough to seek out their website. The creations are brilliant. I found the cat’s expressions so realistic and funny, that day was spent sharing my new ‘find’ with some of my likeminded friends. It’s hilarious. But, from the artistic point of view - the lady who’s created these masterpieces is very talented. If you look at how well she’s bleded in with the style and time of each masterpiece, she’s made the cat look believable in that painting.I’ll be getting a print from Russia, it’s going to be a conversation piece for sure. The book is fantastic, it’s funny, but also informative about each individual original art work. Great quality. Full of the amazing pictures. It’s nothing like I’ve ever seen before, really great.

A book that will make you smile every day.
I love this book. It is very clever the way a (very ) large ginger cat becomes the main protagonist in these famous paintings. Very funny, quite silly and cheers you up on a grey day. Well presented with good photography.

A book is something you could feel
I find it easier flipping through the pages than going through the website. And it's just so nice to have it so accessible from the coffee table or bedside night table.
