Irritrol RD600-EXT-R Rain Dial 6 Station Outdoor Irrigation Controller

This was a replacement for the same model from at least ten years ago, so installation was straightforward. The mounting screws went into the same locations in the wall. The wire connections for the power and the valve control also went into the same places. The controller is up and running, and will hopefully not need to be replaced for several years at least. The connection layout for this controller is simple and intuitive, as is the programming process.

A pretty decent explanation on how to replace my old one ! Easy reprogramming instructions and I hate doing wiring ! There’s a how too on You Tube also that’s very good too ! Mine old one was 20 years old and this new one still screwed into original holes ! Very happy with this new one!

Good quality irrigation. Ease of use. Works well. Installation was plug and play. I am a stay at home mom-was easily swapped with old controller.

Perfect replacement and fixed the problem.

I purchased this unit as a replacement for the prior generation of the same unit. If I had wanted to, I could have simply swapped out the control unit by detatching the ribbon cable and popping the old one off its hinges. However, I removed the entire old one and put this one in its place. I did not install the original unit, but the whole replacement process took around 30 minutes.This new unit has a nice feature that allows it to be programmed "offline" by using power from the 9-volt backup battery. That's nice so that you don't need to stand at the terminal (outside, in the sun... it's over 100 degrees here) to perform the setup.The unit is simple to configure and use and the manual is easy to understand, even if you have never seen this kind of unit before.For those interested, the prior version (8+ years old) has a known bug in the code that causes it to "freak out" periodically and stop activating its stations. The temporary fix is to kill all power, remove the battery, wait a few minutes, then re-apply power. Usually, I needed to reprogram the thing after that little exercise. That works, but is inconvenient and you usually only find out it has happened when your plants start to turn brown.This new version has NVRAM that stores your programming even if the backup battery dies -- oh, and the bug is supposed to be fixed. So far, so good.

In my Opinion Irritrol branded irrigation controllers are professional quality, even the ones made for residential use. I have one attached to the wall outside my house in the weather (Phoenix, Az). It has been there for at least 20 years and it hasn't missed a beat.This one was purchased to replace an irrigation controller on my son's house. This is a step up from my older model in that this one has a moisture sensor input (the sensor is optional, and not included) This model controls 6 watering valve stations has 3 program settings (for seasonal watering schedules), allows skip days, and if you use the moisture sensor, will skip watering when it isn't needed. Oh, and it has a 9V battery backup in case you live where you have a lot of power outages. The biggest and best feature is that they are durable and let’s face it, you don't need to upgrade this like your computer. The second best feature is it is easy to program...

The display of information on Amazon (I expect precise specs) did not tell that it is not compatible with European electricity. I had to get this information from the Irritrol customer service hotline.So I had to resend. The respective process was perfect and quick.
