Bad Amazon practice
Defective product, this watch doesn't work, it was my wife's Christmas present,I wish the seller would have taken the time and made sure the watch worked before selling it and dissapointed everyone, Amazon should demand that products like this has a proper working product before selling it, I rate Amazon zero for this unprofessional practice , although they make you pick at least 1 Star

Incredible DEAL on a BEAUTIFUL WATCH!
I "Splurged" to buy myself this gorgeous watch. The fact that I was able to buy myself such a stunning, classy, well made time piece for this price is a blessing!! I'm very happy with it's quality and the packaging is beautiful. It's worth $1,000 and looks like every cent worth, (even though AMAZON offered such a great discount, at the time of my purchase)

Solid quartz watch with an interesting history
If you're not familiar with Alpina, they have a really neat history going back to the early 1880's. It started out as a union of watchmakers in Switzerland doing mostly repairs, and they branched out and became primarily a manufacturer. Then in the early 20th century they changed their focus to aviation and naval watches for the German army and others. This set the tone for the next 100 years, they would focus on active watches, not necessarily dress watches.Alpina was well respected, and Rolex even subcontracted some of their watch movements to them. In the 1950's and 1960's they became well known in the US as a manufacturer of luxury active watches. But they (and many watch companies around the world) were hit hard when the the Japanese company Seiko disrupted the industry with the invention of quartz movement in the late 60's/early 70's. The company slipped into obscurity for several years.Alpina was bought out by Frédérique Constant almost 20 years ago, and by 2010, their production shot back up, going back to their roots, mostly quartz but a few entry level Swiss mechanical movement watches. In the past 3 years or so, they've experimented with interesting hybrid smart watches - pairing with your phone, but higher end stylish analog faces. The price range of their product line is roughly between $800-$1,500.This watch is a nice higher end quartz watch - not sweeping Swiss mechanical movement, not a smart watch. To clarify for those who get confused by "Swiss movement" watches: What is traditionally understood as Swiss "sweeping" movement is not quartz, it's mechanical or automatic movement (ie, most Rolex move at around 8 micro-movements per second, giving the illusion of a sweeping second hand). The Aplina is definitely a Swiss made watch but utilizes quarts movement and thus does NOT have a sweeping movement. The sweeping hand, of course, is one of the hallmarks of higher end watches. If interested, Boliva has some beautiful quartz watches that utilize a sweeping second hand. The material is stainless steel. The bracelet is stainless as well. The mother of pearl does not show up well, the light has to catch it just right. It looks black most of the time (see pic). Note that mother of pearl is a natural substance and therefore can vary from watch to watch, yours may not look as black as mine does. It's water resistant (10ATM), ok for light swimming or shower, but not appropriate for divers.Has sapphire glass, which is preferred. It's clearer and more scratch resistant. Has a nice finish, was machined very well. It's comfortable to wear, good weight, feels good.Has a day indicator, and the hands are glow in the dark. The box and packaging is really nice. Includes a manual with warranty information. You don't have to worry about finding parts for this. And of course the diamonds. They're very small, but they catch the light, they're sophisticated, doesn't feel like bling or costume jewelry. They also add a touch of femininity. Comes with a diamond certificate, they're good quality diamonds, but only .05 carats total. I do like that they're conflict-free diamonds, that's really important to me, I would never buy any jewelry made with "blood" diamonds (slavery, etc).My only caveat is that the design is common. There are hundreds of watches at big box retail stores that look just like this. Naturally, upon closer inspection, you notice the diamonds and quality. But if you're looking for something that people will notice, this may not be it.

Wasn’t working on arrival
I received this item today. The watch, which has a quartz movement, was not working. I pulled out the crown and changed the date and time and screwed it back in - still nothing. The outer box was stained; the watch looks to be very old stock due to condition of the box and the dead battery (I am assuming it’s just a dead battery). I am not going to take time out of my day to take this “brand new” watch somewhere and pay for a battery replacement. Very disappointed. Watch being returned tomorrow.

Gorgeous
The Alpina brand may not be widely known or highly sought-after, but they have a long-standing reputation for producing excellent quality timepieces. This Alipna Comtesse is gorgeous. Its classy, timeless style combined with the black mother of pearl dial, diamond markers and meticulously crafted stainless-steel case and bracelet, make for a beautiful everyday watch that can dress up or down.In person, the Mother of Pearl dial is exactly what I expected it to be. At a glance, it just looks like a black dial, but under closer inspection and as the light refracts off the dial, it comes to life, exposing unique patterns and shimmering colors. The diamond markers add just enough shimmer without being gaudy, and the silver and white hands contrast nicely against the dial making it easy to read the time. The stainless-steel bracelet uses a hidden butterfly clasp that features the Aplina logo where the two ends of the bracelet come together. The tail end of the second hand, and the screw-down crown also has an Aplina logo, and the signature Alpina case back is highly decorated.Another reviewer incorrectly characterized the movement as “not a Swiss movement” which is not true. While it is a quartz movement rather than an automatic, it is indeed Swiss. The standard to label a watch "Swiss Made" (not to be confused with the "Swiss" label) is "the movement must be completely Swiss, cased up in Switzerland and the manufacturer carries out the final inspection in Switzerland". This watch is also water resistant up to 10 ATM which is 100 meters. My one disappoints is that the date is difficult to read. A larger window, bolder font, or magnification is almost necessary to read the date.Overall, I think it’s a beautiful, high quality, Swiss Made watch that can be worn daily with any attire. That said, I only gave it 4 stars because at this price point, I like an automatic movement and because the date is difficult to see.
