Nujabi Handmade Watercolor Journal 8-1/4x10-1/4" - Cold Press

This journal is lovely, in fact, so lovely, I'm slightly intimidated about starting my watercolor journal with it. Just kidding! The paper is heavy and has a rough texture suitable for watercolor painting, which is my intention. Each page has deckled edges on three sides. The binding is a deep gray and suitably elegant with the look of distressed leather. There are 24 pages in the journal. I think the pages will lie flat for painting when they are still attached to the binding, but that remains to be seen. Also, I'm not sure how the fourth edge of each page would look after being removed from the binding (in case you wanted to sell or give that particular work of art to someone.)

Personally, I love the small flaws and minor inconsistencies that are a part of handmade paper. It all makes the painting experience just slightly more serendipitous.This well-bound (hardcover) and reasonably-proportioned format is more to my liking than the ubiquitous Moleskine watercolor notebooks available in many U.S. art supply stores. Go out and paint!

I use this journal to create small works in gouache. It takes the material nicely. The paper is thick and high quality. I have been pleased with the purchase.
