Does this work well to put under on a plane?

Yes, the bag works well for traveling on a plane. Remember the weight limitation for your specific airline. I have used it twice for international travel. I packed about 50-60 lbs. of material in the bag. I would suggest that you take care in distributing the weight as equally as possible and pack valuable carefully because the bag does not offer the same protection as your average suitcase. If traveling internationally, expected to be stopped and searched, if for no other reason than curiosity as to what you are carrying that requires a long and usual duffle bag.

Is this big enough to fit a croquet set?

Not sure how big a croquet set is, but this bag is huge. I fits my Cabelas XL cot with some accessories and still have room.

Is it big enough for basketball gear ?

Yes, in fact it’s big enough for hockey gear.

How much weight can this bag carry

Over 120lbs that I used it for during my move to Texas filled with clothing, shoes, and other essentials with no problem or issues at all and the bag remains intact as it did when it arrived new.
