This book is excellent! It will bring the intermediate and experienced carver to a new level. Floyd Scholz doesn't withhold any information or technique but I believe the beginning carver will have difficulty understanding the basics. If I were a beginner I'd get the book anyway because it is going to be a keeper. Both carving and painting of the falcon and green wing teal is covered in a clear and understandable manner. The painting tutorials alone make the book a must and well worth the price of the book, IMHO.Happy carving.

Peregrine Falcon by Floyd Scholtz: an excellent reference book
Floyd Scholz's instructive book on carving a Peregrine Falcon.... and Green-wing Teal is a definite reference asset to any serious carver. The sequential series of excellent photos clearly illustrate Scholz's methodology, innovative techniques and rational as he progresses from initial idea through to professional finished product. The supportive text is clear, very helpful, reinforces the photos and indicates not only the author's understanding of his subject, but his artistic and technical skill which combine to bring the completed carving to life.

Another great book from Floyd Scholz
Another great book from Floyd Scholz! We saw this dynamic piece at the 2014 Ward World show, and there were many questions on how did Floyd construct the piece - this book answers all of the questions. Any wildfowl carver wishing to take his art to the next level will love this book. It's not a 'how-to' book for a beginning bird carver (for that I would recommend Floyd's books on the Red-tail Hawk and the Kestrel), but it's certainly a 'how-to' for the intermediate carver with questions about inserts, balance, open wings, flight, etc. etc. When I received the book I read it from cover to cover in one sitting - an amazing book, and one that I will refer to many times.
