Could this bench be sanded and stained in a darker color? Is it real wood?

Hi, the seat is definitely real wood, and absolutely beautiful. Ours came varnished with a protective coating and is a glossy, dark honey color. It could be sanded and stained, but it would almost be a shame to do so. My expectations for the bench's appearance had been low when I ordered it, so I was stunned to see how gorgeous it was. It looks far more expensive than it is. Hope this helps.

The information on Amazon says it’s indoor and outdoor but when I received it the packaging says don’t let it sit in the elements. Which is it?

I use it indoors. If you use it outdoors in a covered area it would probably be fine. Left in the elements it would probably need refinished or sealed every so often.

What is the length between the legs (for fitting something under it)?

The BENCH legs are 44" wide between them. This is inside to inside just to be clear. If you meant the width between the legs on the TABLE, they are 58" wide between them. This is a surprisingly well made product such that all holes lined up perfectly and it went together rapidly.
