Marianna's Beauty Salon

Wondrously real
Rehman’s poetry starts from a sense of place, a childhood suffused with wondrous smells of frying pratha and the struggles those new to New York, making their home but not totally sure they are welcome. But any exploration of place also involves an exploration of self, and Rehman’s poetry takes us through places and people in spectacular and inventive ways. Whether it’s to lament the loss of a bookbag that encompasses the whole of the City, or an exchange over body parts left behind on the subway, Rehman makes the world magical in practical and wise ways. Every poem of this collection is an exploration into deeper caverns of our hearts and basements.
