Wolfgang Tillmans: The Cars

This book is filled with pictures of cars, very very ordinary pictures with cars. Supposedly a meditation on an everyday object we take for granted. But it's really a tedious, dry, boring exploration of the topic. I know Tillmans is a well respected but just because you are an "artist" and claim a conceptual thought behind a very dry and boring book does it not make it cerebral. It's a perfect example of "contemporary art" that makes average people roll their eyes.I used to own a copy of his now scarce book "Concorde." And I remember enjoying it. And this is similar in a way but much less interesting. But really is it much less interesting or were they both uninteresting? This book forces me to rethink how good Concorde actually was. Maybe it's success was much more to do with the lustful object the book captured and less so the "artist" himself.

Very conceptual, well worth the price if conceptual photography is an interest of yours.

Solo un grande artista può immaginare con tanta lucidità un libro del genere. Pura poesia contemporanea. Per un pubblico di appassionati di arte contemporanea, meno per i gli amanti della fotografia più classica e immediata (senza alcun giudizio)

カッコいいスーパーカーが写っているわけでもなく、誰もが目にしたことのある車のある日常のありふれた場面を撮っているのだが、それがなぜかカッコよくハイセンスになってしまう。これはティルマンスの技術云々より感性によるところが大きいと思う。

もう何撮ってるか分からない。いや車なんだろうけどね。たぶんティルマンスしかその良さが分からない。絶妙ですね。
