When I got a new computer my camcorder firewire connector did not fit the new firewire port, but this adapter solved my problem instantly. Works great, simple to install, transfer speeds are fine. And this is a great price!

good adapter. It works, its simples and steady. I use for audio recording with an old pressruns firewire studio, and works pretty well.

I'm happy to see that this item has worked for others but it doesn't work for me. Tried plugging in a 400 hard drive and DV cam. Neither worked, but both work with my old machine with 400 ports. Trying to find out how to exchange it but of course Amazon doesn't make that part as easy.

I wanted to import video from my camcorder into my Mac mini, but all I had was a Firewire-DV cable and I needed a Firewire 800 cable. The adapter worked perfectly.I was disappointed that Firewire 800 adapter was not shipped with the books I had ordered; I was hoping Amazon would throw the little thing in the box with the other items, but they did not. The items came from two different sites, so I ended up paying over $8.00 for my little $1.50 adapter.Oh well...

There isn't much more to say than it worked for us. Since new Macs don't have firewire 400 ports, we needed the adapter to work with the cable that came with our new audio interface. Everything worked exactly as expected.

This is a slick little adapter that works as advertised. The transition between 400 and 800 is a little bulky for closely spaced ports (such as the MacPro), so you might not be able to cram two onto your system; better to use this to connect to a FireWire 400 hub (like this one, though I haven't used that particular model) and then use that to connect your other FireWire 400 devices.My one tiny wish is that it had a small LED to indicate that data was moving through it; it would speed connection diagnostics a little.

Work as intended. No issues when using on my MacBook Pro thru the lighting bolt port adapter. Oh, and at a fraction of the cost of other options.
