My old SunSaver 6L charge controller died after many years of service and I purchased another unit to replace it. The SunSaver 6L is a good unit and clearly well made. The construction is top notch, the screw terminals are easy to use and reliable. There are a couple of status LEDs to provide information on the operation of the controller (input current present, low voltage disconnect operating, charging) which is helpful for a controller used in a remote location. My controller is mounted inside an outdoor enclosure and must be mounted vertically, which is not recommended for optimal cooing. Despite this abuse, the old unit lasted well over ten years before failing. The terminal lugs are plated and well labeled. The unit provides a simple jumper to convert from sealed batteries to flooded cell types. This is a solid, no nonsense controller and I would buy one again. Wait, I did buy one again.

Decided to try a new supplier in Colorado for this item. They had inventory and a competitive price. Prompt delivery. No regrets. Product build quality is good. Controller is sealed and terminal connections are solid. Aluminum, not plastic. I have it charging a 12V7AH and powering security devices. The controller coordinates solar panel, battery (keeping it topped off and preventing deep discharge) and wireless IP camera / sensors.

Since the Stevens/Vitel JL-2 is no longer available, this has been my go-to regulator.

Morning star led error status did not give the correct error indication to fix an issue with my charge controller. Had bad solar panel which was not a problem with my charge controller. Old solar panel could not supply enough power for the controller to function correctly.

Does what it should tho first one died after a year.

As good as they can get built they will not guarantee protection from coronal mass ejections or high event solar flares so if you want them to last longer you need to make the efforts to provide them an added layer of protection like a metal backed plating and a metal cover over the top of the installed charge controller and ground these two plates into the earthing line. also keep as much dust as you can away from them clean them as frequently as possible at least every 4 months even when they're not in use.

My first 10A was installed in a popup camper in 2002 and subjected to high vibration, high heat, dust and freezing cold and to this day it is still chugging along. My second 10A used for a 4x4 electric fridge batter, fried the input circuit when the amperage exceeded the threshold. In it's defense the panel,180Watt Portable, was up at 9500 ft, crystal blue sky's and blazing bright sun. The third 20A solved that problem and is still running fine 2 years later. You can not go wrong with MorningStar and they even answer the phone.
