how do you put them in?

The top has a plastic cap so you can use a rubber mallet to firmly tap the top of the marker. If your ground is frozen solid, you may want to make a pilot hole with a screw driver. We offer the Marker Mount Plus which combines the 4' Reflective Marker and a Marker Mount. The Marker Mount is a plastic spike which can be driven into frozen ground. The Marker Mount has a hole on the top that accepts the 4' marker.

How far from edge of driveway should these be placed?

I have them placed a couple of inches from the edge as they reflect and guide me clearly when backing into my driveway without driving over the edges of my lawn.

Do you really need the drill bit to put the driveway markers in the ground?

I am not sure why there is a question about a drill bit, but I am happy to say, as long as the ground is not frozen solid, then no drill but would EVER be needed. If the ground IS frozen, we would recommend our marker mounts as the solution and not a drill bit. I hope that this answers any confusion.
