Functional
We went on a family vacation to Glacier National Park and I was able to carry our 45 lb child for the few days of hiking we did. Not sure how we would have made it without.

One of the best carriers on the market.
Some of what I disliked was more to do for my daughter than me. I found this a lot easier than anything I've tried thus far. The things I didn't like they are already in the process of correcting. Such as not having side rest or arm rest. This made so when she fell asleep (Yes she did though I have no clue how other than a very long day at the beach in the sun.) she was tight against one side of the straps. They are already working on fixing that. Let's be realistic though. I most cases they are not falling asleep on your back while walking. I'm going to miss moments like this when she no longer needs me. :-) Only reason I do not give 5 stars is 5 means perfect. I find it a four star while others I feel are 2-3 stars. So this is the best of them to me. So four is in fact an honor.

Heavy, not functional
First, and foremost, if you're planning to use this for a day out or hiking, there is NO STORAGE of any kind included. There are two tiny pockets on the waist strap, big enough to fit your car keys or maybe a small granola bar, but there is NO PLACE to put snacks, water, or any other "out for the day" kid necessities. I honestly didn't examine that aspect of the pack because, well, what pack comes without packing spaces?! This is literally a heavy child seat that you wear on your back. And that. is. all. Oh, it's also a very expensive child seat. I am so disappointed. It weighs more than my hydropack when full of water, and that's before I put my 3 year old on it. Once he's on my back, it's just about unmanageable. Which is probably ok since we can't go far without water or food! It seemed like exactly what we needed for our hiking adventures, but it's completely unusable. It distributes the weight awkwardly, so I can't even give it an extra star for comfort in carrying him. The straps are clunky to use, so I've got to get him all situated, then lift the whole mess onto my back. This makes it difficult to get the straps adjusted and positioned properly, because it's not the same "on the ground" as it is once he's suspended. And when the straps aren't tight, he leans back, making it difficult and painful to carry him. The weight distribution is all wrong. I have to constantly remind him to lean forward. I need something for our longer hikes, but this definitely was not it. Very expensive "oops" purchase.Edited to add that if you had at least one more adult along, this would be a 3 star item. It definitely is easier than giving a piggyback (frees your arms), and if you had help getting the child in and out, as well as strapped in properly, it would be a much less clunky process. Plus, the addition of somebody to actually carry water/food for the hike!

Love a good Freeloader
The Freedloader is a heck of a great pack. We use it for any event where the kids will get tired after a few hours but we dont want to take a break... Its comfortable and adjustable for you and the kids.

The best carrier!
My mother got me this for my grandbaby and I love it! My grandbaby sleeps comfortably in a secure carrier. The material is durable and it is easy to clean!
