1001 Guitars You Must Play Before You Die

My favorite 'Cool Old Guitar' book
I've been buying up a lot of books on this same basic (reviews of many old guitars) subject, but this one's by far my favorite. (So far -- but I can't imagine any other books I buy, down the road, covering the whole field as well; and giving me an idea of where else I'd like to look, to see what was or is still out there.) As for page count: even though I knew the number of pages, before it arrived, I couldn't believe how thick it was, when it first arrived. (I guess I'm used to lower quality papers, for novels and the like?) It's fascinating to see this many guitars talked about, by this many writers -- with no agenda (such as sales of specific guitars) -- and to be able to make mental categories of what I like, feature-wise (on an actual guitar), and what I could do without. The photography and print quality and overall presentation are all top notch. The amount and type of text is just right. Overall, I find this one to be a book that's not only really fun on the first flip-through, but also resonates long after that first peek inside. Definitely the one I'd recommend to others, who wanted a book of this basic type.

Open to any page and enjoy.
I completely enjoy this book/reference/history of the modern guitar. The pictured instrument sometimes doesn't exactly match the description, because of different options and the availability of a specimen to photograph. That was a little confusing at first but didn't take away from the enjoyment of this book that should be in every guitar collectors and players library.

Fact-Filled and Fun - a Feast for the Eyes!
If you love guitars, and love to read, then this book is for you! This is a great resource, a feast for the eyes and the mind. It's great to pick up and thumb through in no particular order, and revisit time and time again. A wonderful piece of work and worth every penny and more - a truly exceptional value.

A nice pictorial history of the guitar
This book does what is says on the tin. Pretty good colour photos and some snippets of information about 1001 guitars. If you are interested in the history of the instrument, or just want to drool over a load of instruments that you will probably never have the chance to play (never mind imagine owning) then this is the book for you - it really does start at the birth of the instrument, going up to the 2000's. Like all of these types of books it is one you will pick up and look at occasionally rather than read through. Interesting and worthwhile - if you are weak willed though it could end up being a very expensive purchase indeed!!!

Good reference book but not great for drooling
I'm slightly disappointed with this book - it has huge amount of content but very little about each individual guitar. There's mostly a single image of the front of each guitar and a description. I'd love to be able to see at least the back of each one and maybe some of the more interesting features of some, but I get that it would have been difficult to achieve. Still, it's a very interesting read and something to randomly browse, but guitar porn it ain't.

Amazing
There have been some critical reviews of this book regarding Inaccuracies but as an avid fan of guitars I've noticed many such things in the great number of books I own on the subject, in my opinion this book is no worse than than most. This doorstep sized volume is amazing value for money, after over 50 years of messing around with guitars and amassing a large collection of instruments I thought that there was little left to learn but there are many wonderful, (and some not so wonderful), instruments within this book that I'd never seen or heard of. Buy it and enjoy it for what it is.
