What is difference between this and polymer/synthetic paper?

This paper is porous which allows the sponge below it to keep paints moist so they do not dry out, and when I say it keeps them moist I mean in PERFECT condition. It is intended to be used with the Stay Wet pallet which closes up very tightly. Once I forgot I had paints inside and they were in there for about a year. I had to throw them away and use a new sponge (refills came with the pallet) but the paints were in perfect condition - except the mildew smell. The pallet cleaned up perfectly - only had a little mildew on the sponge. Be careful ordering refill paper and make sure you get the correct size. I have the larger pallet but accidentally ordered the smaller paper because I didn’t know they made any other size. I will keep this paper however because it will still work nicely - I’ll just need two of them at a time.

can use without the matching palette?

This is a pad of acrylic paper to be used in a wet palette. Using the the palette keeps the paper wet which prevents the acrylic paint from drying out.

Can you buy the wet sponge for the pallete?

Bought a plastic box where the paper would fit in.  But a bunch of sponges on bottom, topped with wet dishtowel, followed directions on paper, and voila, my paints lasted wet two weeks if necessary.  When finished for the day, I closed box, and put in refrigerator till ready to paint again. Hope this helps
