DSi TekCase - Black

My daughter and I acquired the DSi TekCase years ago when they became available for the Nintendo DSi. The Nintendo DSi might be considered a dinosaur in tech-toy years, but it still works and brings great enjoyment to us. As a product ages, is replaced by newer models it can become difficult to acquire parts and add-ons. When I noticed the price (thanks Amazon for keeping it in my purchase history) it seemed prudent to obtain a couple of spares. The added bulk is minimal when compared to the playtime increase for the DSi. The originals still work and hold a charge just fine. I did manage to break the hinge cover on one side due to my own negligence. It has not impacted the DSi TekCase functions, it is just a cosmetic mar. We now have spares so we can continue to use the DSi without worrying about running out of power.

Oh, how I love game cases. I am a person who frequently drops the expensive things I own, and it's fantastic to have a bit of extra coverage just in case. I have the PlayThru Pocket from Logitech and the Theater case from Nyko with built-in battery for my PSP, and a case from Nyko for my old DS, but what about the new DSi? That's where the TekCase comes in. The TekCase is durable and hardy, and it doesn't feel cheap and plasticky like cheaper cases can feel. It has a slot for the camera to peek through, and to remove the stylus, there's a tiny switch you push up so it pops out the side. Very handy. It was pretty easy to put in; just pop the DSi into the lower half, snap down the power adapter in the back, and snap the system into the case. When it's in, it doesn't come out, although it can be a bit difficult to remove. It's fairly compact, but I hated that the power outlet in the back wasn't flush with the rest of the case, as it made the whole thing look a bit clumsily put together in portrait.My favorite feature, though, is the battery. From a side view, one can see a tiny bit of extra girth on the bottom, where a slim battery is hiding. All you have to do is charge the DS through the slot the case adds on in the back (a garden-variety MiniUSB port, nothing proprietary, very nice touch) with the included charger. Also, since it's just USB, you can pop the cable out of the AC adapter and into your computer to supply the juice on the go. The battery TRIPLES the life of the DSi, which is very helpful, seeing as the battery life has been reduced from that of the DS Lite. It charges quickly, and includes very helpful LEDs on the side of the case to tell you about the charge status. The only thing that I didn't like about the battery is that it adds a bit of thickness and girth that made it difficult to pocket the device.One other minor gripe: the bubble packaging. I wish the entire manufacturing industry would do away with this. I've actually avoided buying products that use it. It does nothing to discourage theft, and assumes that you, an innocent consumer (hopefully) are a thief, and you need to be stopped from opening something that you have purchased. It's even sillier for this product, since it's online only and not sold in stores. It's a minor gripe, but something that is a constant pain in the neck for me and many others. This case was perfect for my kids. The DSi was having a difficult time charging. The cord would have to be bent a certain way for it to charge, due to some kind of damage on the charging port on the DSi. Putting the DSi into this case and then charging it worked perfectly. Now it can charge without having to have it sitting on it's side and the charge lasts a lot longer.

now I can leave my ds on and ready to pick up where I left off literally ALL DAY! so much more fun to play when you aren't counting down the minutes till your battery dies, while squinting and your dimmed down screen.

This tekcase is great for longer trips, you can play your DSi until the battery goes off, and start the tekcase, and begin to play again, or you can keep it off, and letting the tekcase re-charge the DSi, without any cord. The tekcase charges with a 110/220 or USB.

i really liked this protective case, its very strong and protects my son's dsi from drop or bumps and not expensive for the quality of product
