We were having trouble with some beast breaking into our previous feeder. We saw this one and decided to try it. It has done the job and so far has withstood any onslaughts. We did add dog snaps to hold the door closed. (One reason this cage has worked better is the fact the door opens at the top rather than in the front.)

Lid closure should be better; mesh could be smaller; starlings still steal suet intended for other birds. However, it does hold the suet well.

Well made well enamelled but hard to slide in 2 suet cakes without breaking one or distorting the wire. When wire side is distorted hard to close latch, which is on top. When latch doesn't work because of this it hangs open. Chain can easily be relocated to side so it doesn't hang open. One star less because I had so much trouble getting two cakes in without breaking them and then having to re-bend it when I pushed them in, and still ocouldn't close latch. Really better to use only one cake, but others folks may know to freeze the cakes so they are smaller harder and easier to get 2 in without my clumsy "novice suet-user" attempts.

The photos show it with a wide side opening, but the opening is on the top. Not quite what I was looking for but will make it work.

Bought two to hang from eye hooks on each end of my elevated chicken coop. They work great for seed/mealworm blocks to give the chickens an added activity in the run, as well as a varied diet. Well made.
