A second tail of Ravenloft
I first bought this novel in paperback whenever it was published a couple decades ago and enjoyed it enough to repurchase it recently for Kindle. Here we get to learn about a truly rare undead creature, an Elf made Vampire! Cutoff from the day and the glory of the dawn Jandar Sunstar is forced to stalk the night and live off the blood of others. I don't want to spoil things, but he is thrown into meeting the lord of Ravenloft, Count Strahd, and teaching him many things about how to successfully remain undead, for centuries. Recommended for horror fans far and wide.

Only read if you enjoy getting angry and yelling at inanimate objects containing written words.
If you really, Really want to read it as a fan of D&D… either borrow it from your public library or a friend.Would NOT recommend this.Too many plot holes.Too much character inconsistency.Too much jarring prose that lacks cohesion.I was expecting something on par with P. N. Elrod's "I, Strahd" novel and was severely disappointed.Don't waste your money and either don't bother to read it or just have someone lend it to you if you must.

Great book
I read this book many years ago and recently found it as a Kindle item that they think I would like they were right I had completely forgotten how great this series was a little long as certain points but vivid imagery and phenomenal storytelling more than make up for any downfalls or anyone that loves Dungeons & Dragons vampires or fantasy fiction this book is for you

A YA novel that still holds up, 30 Years Later
When I was a kid I was obsessed with Ravenloft, both the D&D setting and the novels that were spawned from it. This, the first and it holds up surprisingly well. It's more fantasy wrapped in Gothic trappings than horror, but still very enjoyable. This time I listened to the Audible version and I read other reviews that were critical of the performance. True the actor has a voice better suited for something other than what should be a gothic-fantasy novel but I still thought he did a fine job. Enjoy!

Enjoy the ride.
I won't lie, this book is LARGELY derivative. The main antagonist is nearly a straight out copy of Bela Lugosi's Dracula, down to the tuxedo and slicked back hair. The villagers are under his spell and the thinly disguised "gypsies" are straight out of a black and white movie. Having said that, however, I find the book incredibly engrossing. I LIKE the fact that it takes ideas which are common and manages to make them fun again. Highly recommend this book. I can't wait to see what happens as it unfolds!

Vampire of the Mists by Christie Golden
Vampire of the Mists by Christie Golden follows a gold elf vampire named Jander Sunstar, who is bent on revenge. Jander gets thrown into a land called Barovia where a lord, Strahd, takes him in. When trying to found out who hurt his beloved, he finds his answers were right under his nose.Negatives:1) Time Passing. I really was lost because I didn't know how much time passed in some parts. I was really shocked to suddenly see Anastasia pregnant, then suddenly her child is running around town. It would have been OK if there was an indicator in the next paragraph. Basically, it just would have benefited a little more if there was acknowledgment of time. I really explained that badly...2) Point of views. I didn't like how in the same paragraph, the viewpoints were suddenly changed. So one minute you're in Sasha's eyes, the next you're in Jander's mind. I really didn't care for that.Positives:1) The characters. Jander was just an amazing character. I really felt his torment. Strahd was just creepy. I liked all the references to movies like Dracula that you can find in here. "I am Count Strahd von Zarovich, and I bid you welcome." Was just like the dialogue in Dracula. Sasha and Leisl were great characters. Sasha was really thought out and interesting. Leisl was the same way.2) Horror. The story is creepy. Not scary, it was just plain creepy. Every chapter had something horrible happen in it and because of that, I felt disgusted and awed.3) Twists. I can't give anything away but towards the end I was absolutely shocked that someone was someone. Just shocked!4) Emotions. This is really the first book I had some sort of emotions for what was going on. I was disgusted at some parts, heart broken at others, and horrified most of the time.Overall: 4.9/5*The time issue and the viewpoint issue I had really bothered me. But all in all, the story, the characters, the emotions that went along with the book made up for it.*

A Great Introduction to Ravenloft
I really enjoyed this book. We follow our main character, an Elf who sees his vampirism as a curse and tries to hold onto his moral ideals, as he is drawn into the realm of Barovia and becomes a guest of its evil Vampire lord. Gradually throughout we get both characters backstory, which is well realised and meet a very well done supporting cast. It all builds into a realisation of the trap that is Ravenloft. This is a really well written book with a logical and well built plot, which does its job admirably giving us our insight into the main characters thoughts and actions.

Mixed Feelings
A slow start, unsatisfying ending, and unlikeable main chatacter. The book didn't get interesting until it introduced the main character's companions, even then I wish they were given more spotlight and a proper ending. However I can't give this book a lower score since most of its chapters were sincerely gripping and left me eager for more.
