A Compulsive Page-turner...and More
When I was less than a chapter into this book, and realized that it was all written in the voice of a borderline crazy bag lady, I said to myself, “Just put it down, and walk away! It’s going to be horribly depressing!” But I could not put it down... And then I began laughing out loud at the manic humor. And then I was captured by the love between the dog and the bag lady. And all of that came before I even realized that this was actually a murder mystery. Which also came before I realized that this is - really - a story about love. Tragic love, trashy love, motherly love, loyal love, foolish love, addictive love, all sorts of love. This was an amazing, wringing tale. Kudoes to Liza Cody for making such a work.

Lady Bag, Electra and The Devil
Lady Bag took the rap for a younger lover. She went to jail. He went free without a stain on his reputation. While she was in jail, he abandoned her. Now, she's a bag lady on the London streets, with a former racing greyhound for a companion. Then, she sees her former lover, the Devil, again. Can she stop him doing to a new lover what he had done to her? Liza Cody has long been one of the most original and creative writers in the mystery field. You'll like this book a lot.

A detective story of sorts with an unusual amateur detective.
All of LIza Cody's books are good. This one takes a very difficult protagonist and manages to make the device work very well. The book is a page-turner, and Ms. Cody makes you care about damaged and difficult people and presents a believable view of their world.

Great Reading
Cody is a little known writer in the U S but one who deserves much greater acclaim. Check out any of her books from the Anna Lee detective series to the most unusual Buckethead and Musclebound to any oh her stand-alones like this one. She is simply terrific.

How does she do it?
How is Liza Cody able to write about a drunken bag lady in such a way that I care so much about what happens to her? And her dog. And her friends. Please tell me that this book is the first in a new series.

Original and clever.
I loved this book from beginning to end. Written in "first person" from the perspective of a homeless woman, was original and clever. I really felt I was on a journey with Lady Bag. Her alcohol induced train of thought had a certain logic to it. And I loved her best friend "Electra" the greyhound, whom Liza Cody very cleverly gave a voice. A Gem!

Brilliant!
Lady Bag is a novel with enormous emotional punch. By page 2, I was identifying painfully with the bag lady, or homeless person if we're being politically correct. There's nothing politically correct about this book, and only Liza Cody's great writing skills make her bleak story bearable. But it is bearable, and a page turner, full of heart-rending insights, but also plenty of pithy wit. The interview scenes between the bag lady and the police, when she is suspected of knowing a bit too much about a crime (not giving anything away, am I?) are laugh-out-loud hilarious.Lady Bag is also a moving story of loves: rotten old loves, unwelcome new affections, and the most refined devotion to a raced-out greyhound.A triumph – up there with 'Bucket Nut' in Liza Cody's work.

Couldn't put it down
I know it is a terrible cliche but I really couldn't put this book down once I'd started reading it. Liza Cody has an incredible talent for creating characters who carry you along in their story. I *had* to know what happened to Lady Bag. Immerse yourself in her world for a while - you won't be disappointed.

Liza Cody, Lady Bag
Absolutely great. Hadn't read a Liza Cody for a while and wondered if she'd stillbe as good as I remembered. She is, and just as quirky. Well worth a read.

Loved it
Well written, fabulous characters (especially "Lady Bag") and an unusual story - one of those books you don't forget. I don't think Liza Cody has written a bad book and this is probably my favourite (except perhaps for the sequel!).
