I just confirmed with the manufacturer, Betterpack. This machine will hold 600' rolls of tape.

Can this work for just occasional (about every 2 weeks) usage?

I honestly don't see any reason it would not work for occasional usage as long as the water tank has water in it. I sometimes don't use mine for a week or more with no issues. I have used this same brand sealing tape machine for the past 16 years in my small business and wouldn't recommend anything else.
