I bought this after the second Christmas of loosing mail. I bought a box store version that said it was tough....it wasn't. The steel is thick on this so smashing is not and option. The locks and hinges are very tough so ripping it open with a crowbar it not gonna work for a thief looking to pop and go. It was easy to install and my maul stays dry in the Washington rain.

This is one of the best products that you can ever buy. Very reasonable price for the high end quality and the big size. It is a huge improvement and change, and the biggest win is the security and safety. After years of having my nails stolen and the worst one when I lost my W2 form. Let me start by saying I wasn't going to buy this mailbox. In my research for a sturdy and highly secure mailbox, Mail Boss came up routinely as one of the top ones. We were experiencing theft at our previous mailbox (which was a typical mailbox shape with no locks or security at all), so we needed to make a change.To combat the thieves, I ordered 2 mailboxes on Amazon so I could return the one that was inferior. I was looking for something large because we receive large FedEx sized envelopes regularly. So I wanted the biggest one I could get. I first ordered the Mail Boss 7206 Package Master on Amazon, then I called Mail Boss and spoke to a great sales rep there. The rep gave me SO MUCH information about mailboxes that I didn't know, it was great. Mail Boss, however, didn't have the largest mailbox I could find. So, by the end of the call, I had decided not to keep this Mail Boss mailbox that I had just ordered. I immediately ordered a mailbox from their main competitor that was 2 inches wider (14 inches VS 12 inches).Since I ordered them on the same day, both mailboxes arrived on the same day. AFTER I ordered these mailboxes, I did more research online, and I found that Mail Boss had a special system for extra security. I also saw photo-based reviews showing the competition's mailbox being opened with a simple screwdriver and such. So when the Mail Boss 7206 Package Master arrived, I was again leaning towards it as the one to install in our brick mailbox.When I lifted both delivered boxes up off the doorstep, I was SHOCKED at how heavy and sturdy the Mail Boss product was. It was easily DOUBLE the weight of the competitor. I had also read that they are VERY DIFFICULT to break into, and based on the sturdiness of the mailbox walls, etc., I completely understand why. Based on the weight of the box, I decided to open the Mail Boss one first.The lift-gate system for depositing mail is also unique. I was unable to get my own hand into the system, nor could I get my 9-year-old daughter's hand in there either. We also tested it with some smaller sized packages (like things we'd get through Amazon), and they were able to fit through the system easily as well. Simply put, the mailbox is safe, secure, durable, and big enough to do everything we need. In the end, I didn't even open the package with the competition's mailbox. PLUS, I later looked more closely at the competition's box, and their mailbox was actually TWELVE inches as well. NOT 14 inches. I did feel a little bit bamboozled by the competition's mailbox.Now, the Mail Boss product was a lot more expensive, but most people know the saying, "You get what you pay for". The extra cost will be made up in spades with peace of mind and ACTUALLY getting my mail. Plus, if you go with the cheaper one and it breaks and you have to buy the more expensive one, then you'll end up paying more. It is common knowledge that paying a little bit more and buying a good sturdy product is actually cheaper in the long run.Long-story-short, the Mail Boss mailbox is as legit as it gets. I ended up calling the company back and letting them know that I decided to stay with their mailbox despite the small size difference. I am SUPER HAPPY with Mail Boss as a company and their product is second to none. Actually 4 1/2 stars. Opening the box today my first impressions were: big, strong, attractive mailbox.I already had a very strong metal post with a square metal top which has 4 holes. They did not line up with the base holes so I needed to drill 4 new holes. Tough metal! Went to hardware store to buy 4 galvanized carriage bolts. The bolts needed to be shortened (used a Dremel) so that the mailbox was able to slide onto the base, which was easy. (A metal post is much more secure than a wood post.) The 2 screws that lock the mailbox onto the base seems a bit minimal to me. Maybe they will be strong enough, but I would consider these 2 screws the weakest parts of the hardware.The 3 (not just 2) keys and lock work great. Reading all of the other reviews I ordered the lock lubricant (Tri-Flo) which Mail Boss recommends using every couple of months; OK. I might order the optional Lock Dust Cover; undecided on this one.Reading all of the other reviews I made some labels clarifying how to operate the mailbox. Especially important is for the mailperson to understand that the door needs to be lowered all the way down before any letters or packages are inserted. If this is not done, letters may easily jam the mailbox. I also cut a cardboard box to insert into the top “outgoing mail” tray, since I basically never leave outgoing mail in a mailbox, and it looks much too easy for a hurried postperson to mistake the outgoing tray for an incoming tray. (See photos).I experimented with putting letters and different sized small packages into the mailbox: letters first, packages second! If the door is pulled all the way down, which inexplicably is ***not*** what the small Mail Boss instruction sticker inside the mailbox shows!!!???, the letters easily slide through to top slot down to the bottom storage area of the mailbox. Then 2 of my 3 small packages fit. Some reviews say the door needs to be open and closed twice to ensure packages drop down completely; maybe for some packages. I will show the mailperson how to operate this mailbox tomorrow. He is very friendly and that should go well.There is a plastic “floor liner” that is placed on the bottom inside of the mail box, supposedly to be able to slide the letters and packages out more easily—-maybe; I wonder if it is more to prevent mail from getting wet if water gets inside. I taped it in with duct tape in the rear because it looks like it might easily slide out with the mail. Hmmm.I was surprised to see that letters at the bottom of the box might be able to be easily grabbed with a common long screw grabber type gadget when the door is fully open = minus 1 star?My mailbox is currently level, but if rainwater gets in, I will tilt the top backwards a little as suggested by another reviewer.Reflective house numbers are included. They are nice, but I used my nicer numbers off my old mailbox. I put the included reflective numbers *inside* the door so the mailperson still sees my address when the door is open. How clear can one be?! :-)Scratches found on the rear top of mailbox. Woooof! Minus 1/2 star?Overall I am initially happy with this mailbox and would probably buy it again knowing all that I know and have experienced by now.UPDATE: So, as promised, I just had a good talk with my friendly mailman today. He is familiar with how to operate this mailbox. He said this is the best mailbox (for residential), but he also added that a determined thief could still get into any mailbox with a crowbar, including this one. He suggested an alternative way to keep water out was to put a bead of caulking along the top front edge and a little bit over the sides.2nd UPDATE, a month of use: Perfectly happy with this mailbox. Mailperson uses it exactly as designed. I really like its looks and strong, secure design and functions. Hard to imagine a better one. Ordered 3 extra keys @ $12 each.

When someone gets kicked to the curb, its amazing what lengths they'll go through to stalk you. Our mail would often mysteriously vanish faster than you can say "identity theft." So, we turned to the Mail Boss with high hopes and a sprinkle of skepticism.Let's talk about the design of this mailbox. It's built like a tank. Seriously, if we parked it on the street, we're pretty sure the city would ticket us for blocking traffic. It boasts a lock that could make even the most determined thief ponder their life choices. We wouldn't be surprised if there's an invisible force field surrounding it, repelling anyone with the intent to snoop. But despite all the bells and whistles, we can't help but wonder if we've inadvertently invited a challenge for wannabe burglars.Now, the Mail Boss Package Master isn't just your average mailbox—it's a package master too! It has enough space to accommodate your Amazon Prime deliveries, ensuring they don't mysteriously vanish like socks in the laundry. It's like having a personal concierge for your packages. We almost expected it to sign for our deliveries and offer us a cup of tea, but alas, it's still a mailbox and not a full-blown butler.Since we installed this mailbox, the occurrence of "missing" mail has indeed ceased. However, we must confess that we miss the excitement of wondering which neighbor was using our credit card statement as a bookmark or using our utility bills as impromptu paper planes. The Mail Boss mailboxes are excellent quality. Their special locking mechanism highly deters theft of mail by keeping the mailbox from being able to be pryed open easily. Our other brand mailbox was pryed open and broke by mail theives. We got the Mail Boss, and the thieves tried again, but weren't able to get into this one, although many pry marks were seen on the mailbox, they did not get into it. The Mail Boss is tough.

Good in between size mailbox for small packages and regular letters!
