Happy Jack Dermacide Ointment, Itch Relief, Hot Spot & Mange Treatment for Dogs, Use on Mange Mite, Itching Eczemas, and as Dog Yeast Infection Treatment, 4 oz

After agreeing with a family member to care for their two Yorkies for a month while they’re on vacay, I found out the doggos have sarcoptic mange. One dog’s skin was inflamed red and balding and the other had enlarged lymph nodes and an open sore on their back. Both exhibited black darkened patches of skin. After 1 week of using this topical ointment (used every other day applied with thick latex kitchen gloves), the itching has gone down, their hair is growing back and the sore is slowly healing over.The routine that’s working is: shampoo with veterinary formula antiparisitic & antiborrheic shampoo for 15 mins and washed off, mixture of 3 tbsp borax diluted with 2C benzoyl peroxide and hot water in a spray bottle to evenly coat fur (careful to not spray head/face) and left on to air dry for 30 mins, dry rest of the way with blow dryer, and ointment put and left on until next bath. This ointment is staining and has a sulfuric smell; I suggest it applied to your gloved hands and then to their fur in addition to crating the dogs during the duration of the treatment with pee pads. Ensure the area in which they’re kept is well ventilated, I had an air purifier on max during application and at a low setting all other times. Good value for the money and does what it says.

While the smell is prominent at first. It cleared the mange within a week. This is a must buy if you want to avoid costly vet visits.

This may have worked, but it ruined my life quite literally. My dogs had itchy flaky skin. Didn't know what it was, vet didn't know either. I bought this to try and their skin seems better for now, after my one an only use. Now I slathered their whole body in it and I used the whole bottle. I did 2 of my 3 dogs as the puppy didn't seem affected with the dry, flaky skin. The smell was strong. It's winter so I did it in my shower downstairs. It made me lightheaded, it didn't stink though just like a chemical pine smell. You don't rinse so I assumed it would be absorbed. I stuck the dogs in the laundry room for 24 hours but had to let them out so briefly they jumped on furniture and ect cause they had been locked up for so long and when I let them out they were excited. but the stuff never got fully absorbed and they were still wet 24 hours later. I left it on for another 12 and then bathed them. It took like 6 washed to get it off. However, my house weeks later still stinks. It took like 12 washed to get the sent out of my blankets. The smell is probably still in my carpet or on my couch. I carpet cleaned 3 times and steamed cleaned my couch several times. The smell has morphed into different smells over the week. From pee to rotten to whatever it is now, I couldn't even describe it. Thankfully it's starting to fade. But it's been weeks. I've bathed my dogs with special medicated shampoos trying to get smell out so not sure what cured them, but at least they are better. If you use this make sure it's summer so you can do it outside and preferably have like a cage to keep them and separate from your main living area. I bought 2 bottles and returned the second cause it quite literally has ruined my life the last several weeks. I've used baking soda and vinegar and all sorts of stuff to clean with and it's still there. Even the clothes I washed in my washer after started smelling like this stuff. It's been a nightmare. Do not recommend. My husband said never use this stuff again. And he has a very poor sense of smell.

You can use this on ferrets! That's one thing I looked and searched for when using this product and found nothing so there, you can use it on ferrets. I risked mine so you don't have to.Bought this for a puppy that was severely eaten up with scaroptic mange. I was in over my head and had never dealt with it before. Well, me and my family ended up with the mange (scabies) too because of it. I couldn't deal with it though this seemed fo be working for the puppy, so we found him a new home where they could properly manage it.But once the puppy was gone I had 3 other dogs I needed to hurry and treat (nexgard) before they got the itchies but what about our ferret?! He had close contact with this puppy and was itching his bum off. They don't make nexgard for ferrets and our vet doesn't see "exotic" animals. So I gave this a shot. I did a small patch test at first and he did great. Let him wear that 2 days and then I did a bigger spot on a different location on him. Let him wear that again for 2 days and then a bath. His itches are back to normal (he always has a little itch) but he is no longer walk, itch, walk, itch, etc. I think this helped and stopped the problem before it became one.

First off, let’s address the big thing everyone is complaining about: the smell.Reports of the odor are WAY overblown. It doesn’t smell like eggs. It doesn’t smell strongly of chemicals. It smells like a cross between Vicks vapor rub and mineral oil. Yeah, it’s not Chanel No. 5– but people saying it puts off noxious fumes are being ridiculous. It’s entirely bearable.Also, the instructions on the package aren’t very clear: you aren’t supposed to wash it off your dog. It’s a leave-on treatment. Apply once daily or twice for difficult stubborn cases or problem areas.Application isn’t a lot of fun. It’s greasy and messy and, if your dog is losing hair due to mange, it turns into a big mess.Also, you’re going to have to let your dog dry for AT LEAST an hour or they’re going to leave a big yellow grease stain on whatever absorbent material they come across.My dog found relief after a single application— and after a few more, his skin began to heal up and fur stubble started growing back.If you can’t afford a $400 trip to the vet where they do a skin scrape and send off for lab results (all so they can write you a script for a $30 chewable tablet), this is the next best thing.It’s not quick, easy or pleasant— but it’s not the ordeal many people here in the reviews are making it out to be either.

Works good but hard to work with. Hard to wash back off dog.
