EXCELLENT BASIC BUDGET HEADLAMP
I mislaid my Petzl Tactikka torch in my flat while reorganising. I bought the Coleman headlamp to keep me going till it turns up.It turns out to be very good. It's a comfortable fit on the forehead, although slightly more bulky and heavy than the Tactikka. It's simple operations can be done with heavy gloves on, whereas the Tactikka was awkward to operate with gloves. It's done with a simple click switch on the top for on and off. You can then rotate the lens for high beam or low beam. The beam is different from the other headlamps I've had. It has a powerful searchlight beam which brightly illuminates something up to fifty feet away. The peripheral light around it is fainter than the Tactikka, but you just direct the "searchlight" at what you're looking at. You can adjust the lens angle up and down as you require. You spend a little more time directing the light where you want it than with the Tactikka, but I've found this an easy adjustment to make. You don't get a red light, but the low beam is really quite faint, and i wouldn't have thought it would spoil anybody's night vision. The makers claim 600 hours use with non recharchargable batteries in this setting. I'd guess it would last a long time, as it's not very powerful. (Might get you out of a tight spot if you ran out of battery power in the wild!) I don't think the AAA's offer much difference with the Tactikka in the time they last at the high power settings. The batteries are more awkward to change than the more expensive, spring free Tactikka, but that's because the tiny springs seem quite stiff. This is also a good thing, in that they should last longer and hold the batteries firmly in place.Where this torch outperforms torches twice its price that I've had, is in build quality. Instead of flimsy lugs holding the band in place, it is held there permanently by solid plastic. Even if you did manage to drop it and crack it, it could be repaired with epoxy putty etc.. quite easily. I've had headlamps described as "durable" or "tough" which crack at once if you drop them on the flimsy plastic that holds th band in place. This one appears to be genuinely robust like the Tacktikka.I've just been out in a thunderstorm with a downpour with the torch after several rainy days. and the weather proofing of the seals seems fine.So to sum up, an excellent basic headlamp that does a simple job very well. At the £10 I paid it's better value than any other similar torch I've had.

Great in use, battery life is proving long. Great value and intuitive to used. Well pleased especially with the red light option.

Great for running!
I bought this torch on the recommendation of a friend. I needed a new head torch for winter running and this torch is perfect. On the brighter setting it easily lights up a country lane at night and cast a long light ahead. It’s nice and light and the battery life is great.

Reliable straightforward headtorch
I use a head torch for winter cross country running. Had a Black Diamond one but using it was too complicated in dark and rain. This is much better design, more thought through and simpler.

Great product without the marketing hype
Bought after another well known brand failed. Light has two setting bright and really bright and a light which pivots up and down. Excellent hands free repairs and walking around in the dark. It would be pithy to say a red filter would be a great addition to help protect you night vision
