Hasbro Star Wars Exclusive Vehicle Imperial TIE Bomber
D**A
This one is Da Bomb!
Despite its limited airtime in the original trilogy (something like three seconds flying over the asteroid on which Han Solo and crew were hiding? I think one flew past Vader's viewport as he stared off into space in his first appearance in ESB?), the TIE Bomber is an iconic specimen within the TIE family of ships. We were excited here when the first version was released by Hasbro in the "Power of the Jedi" line, but this new version has some definite improvements. It features the same durable frame as the first TIE Bomber release (that's one thing I have to say for this particular ship -- it's pretty sturdy in comparison with many of the other Hasbro Star Wars vehicles). This time, however, it is equipped with six bombs (properly colored blue instead of red, as in the first release) rather than three, now dispensed by a new mechanism (turning the circular piece at the rear of the pod), and a missile that fires from the front of the weapons pod. The latter was an especially good touch, and sadly missing from the first releases of this ship. The cockpit is fitted with a removable "ejection" seat like the recent Toys 'R Us exclusive TIE Interceptor. It was far easier to insert and pull out pilots from the older model, but this is admittedly a fun extra feature that is worth the additional trouble. The paint deco is also more detailed -- a sharper blue finish with appropriate "weathering" marks across the ship.As a Star Wars enthusiast in a house full of Star Wars enthusiasts, I'm happy to add this to our play collection. It is, in every way, an upgrade.

There are no decals which is great, the cockpit and exterior are a great looking ...
Some have complained about the lack of weathering on the new toys, personally I have always preferred the clean look - especially for the empire mechs. There are no decals which is great, the cockpit and exterior are a great looking paint job. The toy itself doesn't do much, fires a missile and drops some bombs, but its sturdy and looks fantastic on a shelf. I wouldn't really hand this over to a child though - as sturdy as it is it's just not going to put up with the punishment for long. There are some weak points that are unavoidable, such as the wing attachment area and bomb deployment mechanism - but nothing like the tie fighters available right now. Great collectible. My only real criticism is that there are no sound effects or lighting, and there was plenty of space in the toy to add some without sacrificing realism (which is pretty solid). It's a bit pricey at $100 + but with Disney taking over the franchise you are only see those price tags go up and quality go down. Pick this one up while it's still available.

My son loves this
I purchased this tie bomber for my 6 year old son who is starting to get into star wars for his Birthday. My parents saved my star wars toys from when I was little and my son and I have been playing with them. I always wanted a tie fighter, so living through my son, I purchased this one so we could battle with each other.I asked what was the favorite toy he got for his birthday and he said that this was it. The missile fires pretty far for a toy missile. But my son's favorite part is dropping the bombs. It comes with six bombs that you put into the compartment and you turn the back of one of the middle sections to drop the bombs one at a time.So far it seems to be pretty durable.

Truly an awesome update to the classic ship
Truly an awesome update to the classic ship. Maybe the definitive edition. The paint job is great. The missile and bombs work great! The new cockpit is perfect. It is better than I imagined...

The bomber to get
There have been a few versions of the TIE Bomber, but this is definitely the one to get. The original version was pretty good, this one just adds a few tweaks. As the other reviewer noted, the bombs are blue instead of red and there's a front-firing missile. The cockpit has been totally redesigned and looks great. For me, the best thing I can say about this vehicle is that the wings are nice and sturdy. I remember the old POTF2 TIE vehicles always felt like their wings were going to snap off. I have no such qualms with this one. Definitely a good ship to get for your collection.
