The Furniture of Gustav Stickley: History, Techniques, and Projects

Good for basic Stickley information.
Over all it is a good reference book, but not a definitive study of the Stickley style of furniture. The book is informative, but I was expecting a little more information on Stickley and how he decided on the actual Craftsman style. The projects are good and with a little work with paper and pencil (or a good CAD program) you can produce the pieces that are in the book.

excellent history and project book
This is the book that Gustav Stickley would have written. I am building the Morris chair, and I am finding everything works just as is should. Study the text and pictures, (measure twice, cut once), understand what the author says and marvel at your work! With so much Mission furniture, the author needs to offer a companion book with more projectsBuy this book...make beautiful furniture.

For advanced woodworkers
This is not book with detailed drawing of project. Substantial experience is needed to accomplish presented furniture.

I like Gustav Stickley furniture
I like Gustav Stickley furniture, learning more allows me to develop the craft not steal it as his brothers did.

Excellent book for anyone interested in Stickley or building his furniture
While I appreciate Arts and Crafts furniture I haven' had a strong interest in building the pieces since they seemed to be over represented on the market but this book really opened my eyes to this genre.Turns out there are some very good reasons that people (for more than a century) have just flocked to this style of furniture. I bought this book hoping to find some good patterns but found the back story even more interesting. This book does a great job explaining about the early history of the furniture and more importantly tell us about Stickley and his vision of these pieces. That part of the book alone is worth the purchase price. But there's more to this book and that's the projects or patterns. I like all the pieces that are included. It's pretty rare for me to say that. So far, I have attempted to build any of the pieces so I can't comment on the cut lists or dimensions that are given. I can say that I never accept the cut lists or dimensions at face value. The authors of these books don't always test build every piece nor do they send the plans out for multiple builders to test. There are almost always some type of errors or omissions. For this book, I don't think errors on some of the drawings is too big of a deal as long as you know ahead of time.I don't have many Stickley/Arts and Crafts focused books but I do have an extensive woodworking library and this is amongst the better of any of those furniture books.
