It's actually really easy. It has different guards on it so you don't get two close at first. As long as you can get your dog to sit still and you go slow you shouldn't have any problems.

I have a Shih Tzu and her hair gets very long. I am also very familiar with the Cocker Spaniel coat as I have owned one as well. Yes it will work fine. Go slow in the direction of the hair, not against the direction. Keep the blades moderately oiled. Also make sure you detangle any possible knots and brush thoroughly before you cut. You will be fine.

I bought a Wahl hair cutter from a garage sale. I had it for a long tine and would pay $72 to have elderly long hair cat’ s fur trimmed. And thinned. Groomer couldn’t understand why I wouldn’t do it. I finally thinned all my cats fur, as it’s been so miserably hot. I did it quite a few times with the long hair elderly cat, as I didn’t ever shave them. They all loved it. It was better than getting brushed! Matter of fact, I’m buying a new 1, as the old 1 has had it. The elderly cat just loves me to trim hair balls on her tummy and the cutter doesn’t cut skin, which is better than scissors. 2 of 3 cats just love the trimming. The other was abused, so I let her be. So much money is saved on grooming.

Very loud - guaranteed to scare any pet

The clippers are extremely noisy (unbearable to humans and very scary for pets!) Also in India you'll need to buy a voltage step down converter as this is a US (110v) clipper. I didn't realise while buying that it is also not returnable!

Heavily overpriced and not very convenient in india.

I don't question the quality of product, but this product in India is just a bad decision due to pricing and inconvenience of voltage conversion. If you so want to buy this product, amazon.com offers it for 50USD (including shipping and import duty).
