Fair price for very good colouring pencils
They are wonderful colouring pencils . They are made in China like most of colouring pencils our days. What is not a bad thing to hold the price reasonable. This set has not the chemical stench like my first castle art supplies 120 set purchased nov.2018 which needed a week airing ! This new set scent is wood ! The soft case is very well made , not one split pencil and no breakage !!!! Of course you have to invest in a decent sharpener. Mine is a Helix desktop crank handle , a really useful buy . The colours are bright and beautiful. The palette is all’s and more what you ever need on variety. They are highly pigmented and not to soft or to hard . They can hold a fine point for detailed work . I owe also the full set of goldfaber(48) of faber-castell and some polychromos . I don’t understand the hype around them. They are just not for me , the polys I mean . Castle art are in my opinion much like goldfaber . But with a much larger colour range . Like with most colouring pencils the very light colours need a bit more work than the rest . I use them for Adult colouring books and they are just perfect. I was lucky, I got the 120 set middle of March As a special offer for £29.99. But I would pay the regular price for them . They blend and layer beautifully. There is nothing not likeable in this set , for less than £0.38 per pencil including a superb case with place for a few accessories like rubber and sharpener I can only advise to buy it before it is again sold out ! Like so many times the past months .

Lovely set of coloured pencils - very good value for money
This set is excellent value for money - so much so it would make a lovely gift for an artistic older child as well as being suitable for adult use. I had been using a set of Karismacolor pencils, which are nearly all used up, and sadly are not longer made - this set seems like a decent replacement. They come in a useful zipped wallet, and each pencil is clearly numbered and named. I particularly liked the included colour testing sheet (a sheet of little numbered and named boxes for you to colour in with the actual pencils), which saved me from making my own. The pencils are nice to use, colour evenly, and the colour selection included is very good. Okay - they are probably not quite up to the quality of the best in the market, and I've no idea of how light-fast the pigments are, but they are nothing like the price of top quality pencils either! The only downside I can see is that the coloured pencils are not available to buy individually - so when a colour runs out that's it - you'd need to buy a whole new set - or replace the used-up pencil with a similar one of another brand.

Nice selection of good quality pencils
I bought these pencils 4 years ago and I continue to come back to them. As a GCSE art student, I have spent many hours colouring with these pencils and they don’t fail me. Obviously occasional lead breakage is normal during sharpening for all pencils but it isn’t common with these ones which makes for an enjoyable experience. They sharpen nicely I would say. They’re easy to use and have a great selection of colours and nice pigment, which are buildable and bright. They are basic grip pencils so after a while your fingers may start to hurt depending on your grip but mostly they are comfortable to use. As a gift or as an artist yourself anybody with be very happy with these pencils.

Great range of colours
Lovely pencils with a great range of colours. Great for ‘grown up’ or more adult usage, rather than simple ‘colouring’ pencils for children. Worth the extra money

Great Pencils ... but the case does smell ...
I do adult colouring in, I don't do all that shading and blending, simply because I am not artistic, creative, but not good at drawing ... I just find colouring in relaxing. I wanted a larger set of pencils and I also wanted softer cored pencils as I have carpal tunnel in my right hand. I have created a colour swatch of all 120 pencils, I found them to be lovely and soft. The colours are superb, I will be using them in Johanna Basford and Millie Marotta colouring books. I am hoping they sharpen well, but have already bought a faber castell trio sharpener and have been advised to buy a Jakar crank handle sharpener as these are both ideal for coloured pencils. Will report back if they do sharpen well. So I love the pencils, the only but, is that I do and don't like the case. I love the fact that it is so small for the number of pencils, I liked the way the pencils were laid out in number order, I love the way they have the colour printed on them. I just hate it when companies only print the number on their products. I liked the fact the company included a colour swatch for you. I also liked the one pencil per loop and the way the sleeves in the case allow you to turn to different colours. I didn't and don't like the smell of the case. I have asthma and I found that the smell made me cough. I am going to try hanging it out on the line to see if the smell diminishes. If it doesn't sadly it will have to go in the bin or I will resell the case on ebay with other pens in it. Have had a pen and pencil audit during lockdown. I do have another case, but the loops on it hold more than one pencil at a time, which does make it harder to get the pencils out, does seem a pity to have bought the case version and not be able to use it. So all in all a good experience, if you could just solve the smell of the case and maybe add a handle to the top of the case, so you can carry it easier, it would be five out of five. I compared these pencils to a well known high street stationers set I have that cost me £10.99 for 48 and they are so hard to get the pigment out of. I also have an anniversary set of metallic pencils which were more expensive per pencil and these are definitely as good as those. I will report back on whether a week of hanging on the washing line on sunny, breezy days reduces the smell. So great pencils, great case, it just pongs, if smells don't bother you, then buy with the case, because it is a very good case, otherwise, buy the same pencils, but in the tin. Personally, I usually decant whatever set I have bought into other storage solutions. Homebase do fantastic white and black cylinder flower pots which I use for pens because they have the colour on the top, for pencils I do prefer cases with loops these days because if you drop the case for any reason the pencils are protected against breakages.

Honest artist review- 10000% recommend
Fantastic set!! I do animal portraits as a hobby and these are FANTASTIC! Soft enough and easy to blend yet still able to get those fine details in! 100% worth it! Previously i was using a smaller set of the Arteza soft pencil which are lush! However, these are only JUST a tiny bit below the softness quality of the arteza but sooo worth the £45 for 120 colours/ shades when for £55 you can only get 60-70 (i cant remember exact pack size) of arteza pencils. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A CHEAPER SUB. If i had more money than sence i would buy the Arteza 120 set for £130/£150 ish. However, i don't beleive they are worth the price tag when you can save £100ish on this set and still love them and get fantastic results. I've featured a photo of my latest comission using this pencil set and they were LOVELY to use! And they all have colours stated and a number and the pencil case is just so nice! No pencils bashing around breaking leads and easy to find colours! If you're an artist you need these in your life! Lol

Oh my days
If Castle Arts had 100 fans, I’m one of them, if they had 10 fans, I’m one of them, if they had one fan, it’s me, if they had 0, please kindly attend my funeral. I am in love, I was so close to purchasing a large set of prismacolour pencils until I came across this for almost half the price including a carry case. I’m in love with how smooth they are, the pigment and how the quality hasn’t been compromised despite a cheaper price point. It’s extremely easy to carry around if you like to doodle on the go. Some may say there are a few similar colours, and to that I say, you must have never been a woman in any of your lives. It’s like having a number of brown lip liners. They’re all brown, but some are warmer, cooler, more deep, more light etc . They all have their own function and use. I am entirely obsessed with these pencils.

Perfect for budding professionals.
I'm fairly new to the world of coloured pencils, and was looking for a decent set to hone my skills that wouldn't break the bank. I've definitely found it with this Castle Arts set. The pencils are SO easy to use - they have a good amount of pigment in them, but not so much that mistakes are easily made but difficult to rectify, and it's also easy to layer them/ add pigment gradually to create the look you want. I believe these are wax-based but they certainly don't feel waxy, and there isn't much shine on the paper once burnished. What I would suggest is that, as with all coloured pencils, you use them on very smooth paper. I had a slight issue with one of the pencils breaking but I think this was a fluke as all of the others seem tough and sharpen very well. Customer services were excellent to deal with, getting back to me really quickly and rectifying the issue immediately. Will definitely be a loyal Castle Arts customer from now on! Overall, I'd say if you're looking for a professional set but are unsure if your skills warrant the amount needed to buy something like the exorbitant F.C set, then these are perfect to learn with.
