Hardworking Compost Caddy
I have had this compost caddy for roughly 3-4 months and it has worked great. It takes us about 10 days to fill it up completely before I take it to the compost bin. The handle and square opening makes it easy to dump. The handle seems a little flimsy and I worry that I might break it, but so far I have not been gentle with it - and it hasn't broke. After I dump it, I clean it well with soapy water and it looks good as new. There have been no smells and the lid fits well so I haven't had problems with those tiny flies. I keep the bin on the floor by a doorway and the handle makes it easy to grab and put on the counter or in the sink where I am working. Even with it being on the floor, my dogs haven't messed with it so that's a pretty good sign that the filter works. This is not a "pretty" composter - one that I would want to keep on the counter, but it is a hard working one. And, it's large enough to keep me from running out to the composter every other day. I'm very pleased with this purchase.

Surprisingly good at containing smell & fruit flies
I like this better than I expected to. The one I ordered from Amazon didn't ship with a lid. When I contacted them about it, they were (as usual) quick to respond and make it right. I also found a mini size locally and purchased that. The same lid works for the mini and midi size. The lid does not fit snugly and that concerned me. However, I've had it full on the counter or under the sink with no smell for up to a week. The fruit flies will proliferate inside if you leave it full - they hitched a ride on the fruit/vegetables, but I haven't noticed an increase in the annoying bugs in my house. When I emptied it, I did have to scrub the inside of the container to get rid of all the eggs they laid, but I was going to do that anyway. The lid isn't hinged, so you will probably need two hands if you want to add something to the container quickly. I didn't think this would be an issue, but it is a little annoying. The handle does not feel strong enough to carry this size when it is full, so I don't use the handle. The handle is probably ok for the mini size (about half the height of this one). This holds a lot more than I expected and it is pretty heavy when full. It is about the size of a typical cheap wastebasket for under a desk or in a dorm room. It is overkill for my household (1 person, normally emptying it every 2-3 days), but would be good for larger households. I have found that the mini size is more reasonable for me most of the time.I have

Love this compost caddy
If you compost a lot then this is for you. Love the large/ tall size as it holds a lot (we eat a lot of fruit and vegetables). It's easy to clean (in between trips to the compost pit) and does the job for us. Doesn't smell at all. The food flies are inevitable, and as long as you empty it often, it's not a mess. The fact that it's not porcelain (it's plastic, but not cheap or flimsy), it doesn't get heavy when we have to empty it.It has a simple, clean design so looks pretty nice on the counter top.

Not happy with this one.
I bought this because of all the good reviews. I was wrong. The list is hard to keep on and doesn't just open and close easy. There are no hinges so it just falls to the floor if you are trying to use one hand. It does not keep insects out. The gnats are finding there way through the seams in the lid easily. I can't have bugs and this item isn't returnable since it's basically a trash can. Guess I'm gunna have to toss it. What a shame.

It's a perfectly fine bucket for compost
The first one I got had no lid, but Amazon sent me another one quickly. It's a perfectly fine bucket for compost, but I have found that small flies get in to it even with the lid tightly closed. I don't notice any odor, so the filter works, but I think the filter is loose enough to allow flies to get in. I dump the compost every other day, so it doesn't stay in the kitchen very long. Still, it works fine and it much larger than I thought it was going to be.

Great for weekly composting needs
I just jumped on the organic bandwagon, and decided to start my own compost This small compost helps with my family's weekly composting needs. We use it almost daily, and then dump it outside weekly into our larger compost. It really does not smell. I was worried about having an odor in the house, but the filter (which is provided) holds the odor inside of the caddy. It's size is great for storing under your sink. I have not had any problems with insects..yet. I also think that it is fairly priced.

Not as User Friendly as I had Hoped
I like the size of this container but I wish the lid was attached so that you could just flip it open when your hands are full of scraps to put inside. I also ordered the biodegradable bags that go with it but they are too small and sink into the container. I end up having to fasten them with paper clips so that they don't slip.

Great composter
Very happy with this. It would be nice if it had hinges on the lid though. If it did we wouldn't have to take the lid completely off every time. Other than that I love it.

Brilliant - used cat litter bin
The media could not be loaded. Brilliant, after spending about two hours trawling found this gem...I got the MIDI size, it's about TWICE THE HEIGHT as a normal council compost bin or Addis compost bin, but similar footprint. I.e takes about 9 litres instead of 4.5/5 litres. Fast delivery, label came off easily. Like a tall, rectangular version of a waste paper basket size.Perfect for cat litter. I have an indoor cat and use nappy sacks to fish out his business/clumping litter so I have about about a third of a housebrick size, three times a day..so about a housebrick+ size of litter daily. Currently I use dedicated small council compost bin, so it does about two days and on say the third morning, before I'm dressed I'm struggling to stuff it in so overflow/lid half open/ pong and have to empty the bin. With this, I am able to get 3-4 days worth in...I won't necessarily leave it that long but it means I can run round and does all the bins at the same time, small household, so twice a week. It's very sleek and sturdy, not as heavyweight plastic as other bins but as this will get quite full that's not a bad thing, especially for older people. I might get another now for the kitchen for actual composting/food waste bin. Even if you don't waste much food, peelings take up the space do this would be ideal.Yes, like everything it's a lot for a bit of plastic, but you are paying for the exact size and sleek design. Also this came free delivery, not on prime but within two days..so actually excellent value. The compost thing is a square that slots in the lid, came included, should last four months. Haven't had that long yet but refills are available. All these bins need regular washing. I worked for Tupperware years ago and they always recommended a COLD water soak to get stains and smells out first, not hot water, so I would recommend regular cleaning as normal..filter or no filter old food or waste stinks do the filter helps with that. It's very difficult in life to get the exact size, shape and functionality sometimes, even when you then are prepared to spend a fair bet to get exactly what you want, in this case this is as near perfect as I could hope for.Let me know if this helps, I'll put a photo and video on so you can see. (NB these all look huge on the photo due to camera angle so have put a tin of cat food and normal large wastebin next to it for proportions - excuse state of floors, haven't cleaned up yet lol).I have used a standard pedal bin bag in it..our council allows non compostable bags for food waste so if yours does, a normal bag would fit.So, definitely go for it for pet litter purposes. I have mine on the floor in the bathroom. If you are going to have it in the kitchen, it might be better on the floor as is tall. But is tasteful and discreet.Just buy it and go spend the time doing something better than shopping for bins (says me doing a massive review for a bin lol) :)
