Buy Exploring the World of Physics: From Simple Machines to Nuclear Energy (Exploring Series) (Exploring (New Leaf Press)) on desertcart.com โ FREE SHIPPING on qualified orders Review: More Descriptions, less word problems - What I like about this book is that it presents many physics concepts in real-world concepts. It would actually be an interesting "reading exercise" with a summary about the math concepts as the culmination of a classroom exercise. It could be used to motivate children to enter engineering. Caution: It is not a book full of worksheets or exercises for students, although there are some examples to illustrate the physics ideas and where they originated. The origins of formulas do leave out some important inventor names, but it is a quick read. This is a concept book written for children in grades 6-12+, of how things "work." Not a book of problem sets. The concepts include: motion, laws of motion, gravity, simple machines (like levers and pulleys), energy, heat, states of matter, wave motion, light, electricity, magnetism, electromagnetism, nuclear energy and future physics. What I did find, is that there was no discussion about how elector-magnets control bullet trains and the Tower of Terror at Walt Disney World. There are a lot of "old-fashioned" inventors like Newton, Watt, Boyle, Franklin, Einstein, etc... The author does intermix some modern day examples and photos, so the reader does not get bored with "old history inventions that we don't use today." Overall, I really love this book. It could help young inventors to persevere in their work, and be inspired. Review: Very enjoyable Book about the World of Physics - This book makes the world of physics very pleasant due to the way of the themes are shown. The correlaction between the nature with the history of the concept discovering by the reknown scientists make the physics a simpler game of watching the surrounding nature. Practical examples are great and substantial. The author was wise of type writing such as the way he did, mixing history, complex / simple concepts and gathering all of these in a structured way. It is not a sophisticated physics book with several formulas e integrals but rather a good and interesting wide introductory view of physics

Great resource of science
Bought this for my 8th grader to have a general knowledge of physics to supplement his school year. He has used it as a reference for his science fair project too. Almost every time he reads he will tell me something fascinating that he learned about physics!

I use this along with my guest hollow conceptual physics curriculum. Easy to read and good for my 7th 8/9th graders.

For sixth grade or below
I purchased this book for my son for browsing at home whenever he is interested in reading more about physics. It might be somewhat difficult for a third, or fourth-grader. However, I am somewhat troubled by the lack of diagrams that show vectors for forces and really very minimum number of equations. I would expect that at sixth grade level some equations should be introduced as regular material, and more complex equations as optional material for interested dedicated students. Furthermore, I am deeply troubled by reviews that recommend this book as review or even primary text in a high school. Perhaps my opinion is distorted because I grew up in Europe and did not go through our educational system at home. If so, then I will update this review as my son will go through it, and me watching him doing so. For now, it is a great book for a dedicated fourth-grader but not much beyond that.

Great book
I purchased for my middle schoolers. A little over their heads but very thorough.

This book is educational and interesting at the same time. Very informative. I love the little quiz that comes at the end of each chapter to ensure and re-inforce what has been learned. This series of books provide truth for our children.

lack of colours. Otherwise good information! My son is used to Glencoe style ( more colours and highlighted areas) he finds it boring because it is so black and white.
