DO NOT COPY UPDATE.ZIP TO INTERNAL SD...REVISITED,NEEDS A LITTLE HELP.
Autoruns update.zip on boot.DO NOT COPY UPDATE.ZIP TO INTERNAL SD ROOTYou will put this device in a recovery/update loop.Don't ask me how I know.I did managed to carefully cut the housing open to access the recovery test point and flash a compatible recovery image that confirms whether you want to apply update.zip.Can be turned into a full JB device by editing build.prop to show navigation bar and install a decent landscape launcher (apex maybe, resizable icons, widgets nice for android on tv,im sure there are others)Ive had a few of these budget tv sticks and they all seem to come with a crappy default launcher,no nav bar????(I believe they're more geared toward a dpad style remote rather than a mouse)XBMC doesn't run as well as I'd like, but archos video player runs almost perfect with smb shares and an Aerb Multifunction 2.4 G Mini Wireless Keyboard & Infrared Remote ControlIf you dont have a fly mouse you really do have to get one for these devices, definitely bumps up the cool factor. So really for $40 ir fly mouse included Pretty good deal.Still trying to figure out how to get it back into its housing.***Revisited***I've had this stick since around July '14.Tons of mods...fun,fun,fun.1 day old it I put it into a recovery/update loop trying to root it.But aint that the fun of it ...Installed Apex launcher, xposed framework, gravitybox, per app fonts and a few other modules and utilities.Rooted first of course.Access to developer options and some other hidden settings through more shortcuts. The nav bar can be enabled in build.prop, although not even needed if you get a fly mouse with android navkeys.USB host controller app can mount a usb drive as sdcard,Terminal>"pm set-install-location 2"Google it.Plenty of app storage with 16gb flashdrive, increases boot time and the USB hub kinda defeats the stickform though. Most apps seem ok with it.It really is hobbled without the external sd slot.No complaints,I got mine for $15 shipped.Weird WiFi speed issues with a Linksys DD-WRT????Since I had to access recovery,I vented the the housing,it seemed sealed up pretty tight.I suspect the reboot/failure reviews are due to overheating.Mine has been powered on and in use pretty much daily now for 6 months now with hardly a burp.No resemblance to the original stick inside or out.Tried a few different flavors of XBMC with no love except Beyond xbmc 3.4,until I recently revisited KodiHelix w/retouched skin, actually runs pretty nice besides a few addons with errors.A little love,a few accessories, runs great.Still a deal with the added accessories.Definitely do it again if i needed another budget setup.

Almost perfect budget HTPC/media streamer.
Almost perfect. Awesome for the price. It has it's flaws but the device does everything you'd want it to do. 1080p works but don't expect buttery performance is HD videos, might even make you queasy. 720p works flawlessly. Mine came pre-rooted, though I've yet to need root permissions. ShowBox doesn't work right on there. Netflix, Hulu and Chrome work, I watch shows on watch-tvseries and couchtuner. The launcher is kind of horrible but not a deal breaker. Gets very hot. Use some GPU heatsinks if you're worried, they cost about $3. I wouldn't expect too many graphic intense games to play well. No easy way to reboot. Sometimes when I turn it on the icons are disproportionate and the screen just looks... Wonky. Sometimes the Play Store disappears but I reinstalled manually and haven't had the problem since. My only other complaint comes from the controller I bought. I got the iPazzport game style keyboard/trackpad and it's pretty unresponsive most of the time. I'd suggest trying the air mouse style controller. You're really not going to find a better streaming stick, especially one with a full OS, for the price. I'm mostly impressed by the little adapter that let's you use the otg and power the device at the same time. I've not been able to find another anywhere.

too slow to stream anything
This is listed as a streaming media device, but it doesn't seem capable of streaming anything. It took three hours to download the Netflix app (which is just over 12mb) and of course nothing would play for more than a few moments between ten-minute bouts of buffering. The picture quality (on netflix) was also extremely low. Aside from the inability to stream, the device worked fairly well and setup was simple. I just can't imagine what use something like this is with such horrible wi-fi capability.

value for money
I ordered it this morning and got it a couple of hours later. Thumbs up for that. However, agree on 2 major points as reviewed by other customers 1) need a mouse to complete installation 2) it gets hot quickly. I am very concern on point number 2. Can someone assist me on this? Other than that, installation is easy and does the job required

Pretty good, until it died.
If your Tianle TL869:1) is freezing up/rebooting - Plug it into an outlet instead of a USB port.2) has slow wifi transfer rates - Move it next to the router, or get a repeater to sit within a few feet of the stick. I was able to get a stable 22mb/s throughput next to a repeater - enough bandwith for a 1080p stream.Pros:- Pretty snappy considering the price.- Works with almost all air/wireless mouse/keyboard that comes with a dongle.- Able to run XBMC, Netflix smoothly.- Handles 720p without stuttering.Cons:- Runs way too hot.- Wifi controller on the stick died within 2 weeks of use.
