Marks well
I was looking for some water-based markers to use to write on CDs for archival purposes, and these seemed to be one of very few that I could find. I was worried based on some reviews that they wouldn't work, but as you can see from the picture that I uploaded, they were fine for my purposes.I think how they write depends on the texture or composition of the writing surface, i.e., the top of the disc. I have used these mostly on Verbatim 94691 700 MB 52x 80 Minute CD-R and Verbatim 95033 4.7 GB DVD+R discs, but I've occasionally used them on others as well with similar results. I'm not sure that unfinished, mirror-looking surfaces would work well. Some colors are better than others; black did dry out to a more medium gray on most of my discs, and it seems to get worse as the marker gets older. Green is also fairly light and sometimes beads up, but changing the angle at which I hold the marker seems to help. I've had the best luck with red and blue, but none of the colors has really let me down. I've been careful not to press too hard on the tips, since some reviews have complained about them falling in, but I've been problem-free so far. I've also been careful to tightly replace the cap after each use so they don't dry out, and they've been working for me for several months so far.Obviously I have no idea if or how they affect the life of the data on the disc. I'd prefer to leave them unlabeled, but because I value the convenience of a descriptive label, I settled for these, and as you can see from my description and picture, I've been mostly happy with the results. I was expecting much worse based on some of these reviews.

EXCELLENT Markers
I'm baffled at whats going on with these markers. I see some haven't been satisfied with them. But I've had nothing but good service with both packages I've purchased.First bought a 4 pk at Walmart (no longer carry them) and used them for approx 6 or more years, and had written on around 500 CD's, and I'm still using the red one from that first package.I rip a lot of CD's as I gather my favorite tunes together, and being down to onlyone color I ordered a package from Amazon March 2015.In the past 10 months I've ripped a lot of CD's using markers from either the 2nd pk,or the red one still going strong from the first.I've been exceptionally pleased with these markers and don't knowif I was lucky to happened to get fresh stock or what?Great water based = non-toxic marker that won't effect disc surface.Perhaps the action of keeping the lid on marker every second it's not being used is part of the puzzle.1st photo - red marker from first pk & 4 from second.2nd - TDK brand CD marked with 5 different markers3rd - Second pk - this product from Amazon.

Weak Ink
Ink dissipated when writing on a CD, feels like a sharpie would write with better permanence

somehow the black and green has less colur in it. missing some pigments when you using on cd dvd bd r xl medias. and plastic. shorten time. so if you buying one you better buy lot of them to test out if coulurs gone bad.

Disappearing Ink!
These pens will write just fine on disks that don't have an unlabeled, mirror finish. On those disks, however, the black ink turns light gray as it dries. I did not try the other colors, but the other reviews are certainly discouraging. What types of disks have mirror finishes? I have two from different manufacturers, one of which is the archival quality, MAM-A 24K gold, the other being a generic disk from work.Unfortunately, the only reason I bought these pens was for use with the archival disks. After all, I've been using Sharpie markers on disks since the invention of the recordable CD, and I've had very, very few ever fail after passing an initial test. Since I was archiving a spare-time project that I had completed over 5 years, I wanted to do everything I could to preserve it -- thus the special disks (DvDs) and pens. I did find one pen that works on the mirror-finish disks: Archival Gold CD/DVD Safe Pen Solvent Free . These Archival Gold pens will occasionally have the same problem unless you scribble on a piece of paper first, which seems to make the ink flow better. (I tried that with the Memorex pens, and it didn't work.)BTW, when I'm writing on disks, I try to keep some Purell or equivalent alcohol-based hand sanitizer close by, along with some tissue. If you don't wait too long to apply it, Purell will remove markings from disks without a trace. When working with archival-quality disks, you might just want to use ethyl alcohol, since it is recommended by archival disk manufacturers. We can't forget that the name of the game here is to avoid depositing potentially damaging chemical residues on the disks!Don't shoot the messenger!Tim

Too Light and Dry Up Quickly
DVD/CD markers are impossible to find in stores so I ordered two packs. They start off with a fine print then quickly lose it after marking about 10 discs. I do not use regular markers because they damage discs. I know. It happened to me years ago when some salesperson told me they don't carry the ones for DVD/CD's and any will do. I was desperate because I couldn't find them anywhere and was hesitant to take what I already determined was bad advice. My problem with the Memorex markers, at least the ones I received, is they dry out very quickly. My second pack of markers had to be thrown out because fresh out of the pack they were all too dry and too faint to read. My next order will not be Memorex or color markers. I prefer black.I had been using Memorex products for years going back to the 1970's with their cassette tapes so I usually depended on them for quality. These are terrible markers or they've been on the shelf too long. They deserve one star, but I bumped it up in case I just got two bad packs.

Use special CD/DVD/blu-ray pens like this to save your discs
Use special CD/DVD/blu-ray pens like this to save your discs. I have seen many discs fail after being marked with regular (non-CD) felt markers, something in the ink comes through the disc. These work great to identify those blu-rays!

As far as marking silver/gold coated CDs, forget it.
The reason I bought these markers was to identify properly and with "readability" my movie DVDs. The bottom line is that the black one simply slides on the surface of a disc and barely smears a mark. So to be honest, the ink Memorex has is either out of date when sold, or simply inappropriate. The only upside was the multiple colours, so I will give them away to my younger sister. Not satisfied.
