Interesting concepts, woefully outdated
Some of the concepts are interesting (the channel changing), but other parts made me recoil in disgust - specifically the part where the author talks about a boy spying on a woman undressing has found that his reason for living is 'to bring love into the world'. What a twisted read of that situation. This is a print-to-order edition, I believe they print and bind the book once it is ordered. That makes it a little bit less special for me, doesn't feel quite like a 'real' book.

Found!...a meditation tool I can live with
Is your meditation practice gone stale? Does it seem narrow and lacking in richness? Then this is the book for you. Arnold Mindell is the founder (I believe) of process psychology. He describes techniques in his useful book that I find extraordinary and so helpful to me in my inner work. He describes the various channels we view reality through. Including but not limited to the seeing, hearing, body sense and kinesthetic. And using the process mind techniques you try constantly to be aware in the present moment what channel you are functioning in. This is not a ten minutes per day procedure! It is also not the static one channel of most Buddhist methods that I have studied. Trying his ideas out has shown to be an exciting adventure for me. You have nothing to lose by trying his self help ideas out. And a whole lot to gain.

one of the best tools/practices I've learned is Innerwork
In my studies of Processwork, or Process Oriented Psychology, one of the best tools/practices I've learned isInnerwork. Working on oneself alone is such a useful thing to learn and Mindell's theory and tools offer thelearner profound ways of doing so. Innerwork can be used for a wide array of life situations; it can be used tobecome clearer about relationship issues, conflicts, organizational complexities, mysterious dreams, life direction, depression, self-criticism, public speaking, leadership development and more.

Mindell applies Process Work insights to meditation
In Working On Yourself Alone, Arnold Mindell applies the insights from Process-Oriented Psychology to meditation and personal awareness. You will find him drawing heavily on Eastern traditions and wisdom, as he makes the case that through following our own inner process we can discover our natural meditation practice that will at times include proprioceptive (body) work, auditory focus, artwork, breathing, etc. I found the book very practically useful both as a student of meditation and as a student of process work. I liked it because it gave me insight into HOW TO burn my wood and trusting my own process (even becoming conscious of what wood there is for me to burn). In contrast to Leader as Martial Artist or Sitting in the Fire, Working on Yourself Alone focuses much more narrowly on personal applications of PW.

This is my second copy (purchased for a third home)
I read this many years ago and bought a second copy for a new home. I think I enjoyed it more the first time I read it, probably because I've now read many of Arny Mindell's books and in comparison to some of the later ones this is quite light. That said, if you want to explore process work on your own there is no better book to start you on your journey.
