So glad I got there, lovely colors, lovely to work with

Let’s get the negative out of the way. Whether the colours in this set are ‘perfect for portraits’ as claimed is highly debatable. As you can see from my colour swatch chart, there are some alarmingly bright shades in there. No green either, I hate portrait sets that don’t include an olive green, not only for eyes, but many skin tones have green undertones. I could have layered to make a green (for the eyes) on more textured paper but this was an ordinary journal & didn’t have enough tooth.So I found the colour selection frustrating as the pencils themselves are lovely. They’re soft and blend and layer well (given a paper with a slight grain). I’m not sure about lightfastness, I’d have to do a little more research before I used them for any kind of commission or work that I may display myself. And you can use the softest of touch to get a very light layer which, given the brightness of the colours supplied, is just as well.Having said that, I loved the Davys Grey for building the shape of the face. From there, I just added a smattering of colour to suggest skin tones & shade. I’m going to re-do this portrait on heavyweight cartridge paper or watercolour paper & probably default back to my Polychromos & Luminence for the range of shades, perhaps with a watercolour pencil underpainting as I only have this one portrait set of the Castle Art pencils and I find the colour selection restrictive. I would highly recommend these pencils for anyone looking for budget pencils that behave like more professional pencils - they have the softness, blendability and layering capacity needed to work as you would with any of the more expensive lines on the right paper. I’d perhaps not rely too much on their colour selections though & perhaps recommend getting the largest set you can afford so you can make your own selection.

I love Castle art products, I have several colouring pencil sets (including the 120 colouring pencils and the equivalent watercolour set) and they are amazing. They blend beautifully, vibrant colours and sharpen nicely with a desktop sharpener like a Swordfish ‘Pointi’ Desktop Manual Pencil Sharpener

These are beautiful. I have a few sets of Castles pencils and they live up to expectations. This set is so calming, blendsble, tonal and every colour goes with each other so you don’t have to think too hard on what goes with together. Love them

Beautiful pencils and such great value.I’ve really enjoyed using them and creating some lovely portraits.They come in a lovely tin with a n easy to follow tutorial bookletI love the colour palette. The pencils are numberedand and clearly named.They’re smooth and they blend well.You can create different depths of colour whether intense or light, subtle or vibrant without having to work hard like with some brands I’ve used in the past.Brilliant and courteous service with follow up emails enquiring how I’m getting on with the pencils.I’m very happy with the product and the seller.

These pencils are lovely really smooth..I'm still having difficulty in portrait colouring but I think that's my fault

Beautiful colors, great price, love the way they feel in the hands, just smooth, durable material and pictures come out sharp...

These pencils were less expensive than some other brands, but they will not disappoint. They are excellent quality and produce vibrant results. I’d buy them again and again.

J'ai la boîte en métal de 120 crayons de casrle arts aquarelle mais j'aime bien avoir un ensemble de crayons pour faire des dessins de paysages et urbains, j'ajoute à ceux là d'autres crayons de différentes marques et avoir tout sous la main et économiser mes autres crayons. Ils sont très bien pour des crayons de moyennes gammes. Beau nuancier, aquarelables, mines grasses. Numéros et couleurs faciles à identifier. Envoi rapide et soigné. Pas de casse, ni de doublons, se taillent très bien. S'étalent bien, se melangent bien et belles couleurs aquarelles. Un bon rapport qualité prix. Je les ai pris lors d'une promo. Je suis satisfaite. Je recommande pour ceux qui ne font que des paysages. Très proche des faber castell.
