Commonly known as the bursera graveolens and grows all over the Americas including Mexico, Peru, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Galápagos Islands and plentifully in mainland Ecuador. The trees comes to age between 50-70 years at which point the tree dies of natural causes. The tree is then left for 5 to 8 years for the oils in the wood to mature to make the high quality incense. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) declare the bursera graveolens as not endangered. This Palo santo is a fully seasoned dry wood – not kiln dried. It will initially produce a strong black smoke due to the vast amount of natural oils. Extinguish and relight for a strong but gentler natural palo santo aroma. Some stick smelt authentic while others just didnt, still using them, so not all bad but I wouldnt buy again. However quick delivery and good packaging.
