CFexpress Type B and SD UHS-II Dual-Slot Memory Card Reader by ProGrade Digital | USB 3.2 Gen 2 for Professional Filmmakers, Photographers & Content Creators

There are always pros and cons... Changing from GH5 to GH6 cameras meant CFe-B cards and a new reader - I bought the generic one in the pic - from Amazon. It was great - then it was horrible - extremely slow. So, I bought a new one and because I like PROGRADE cards I bought the PROGRADE reader - it is excellent - really fast. THEN I thought - maybe?... and I tested the 'Generic' using the PROGRADE cable - it was great again - a shade faster the the PROGRADE. I did some tests... First CrystalDiskmark - results in the pics. The slowest one is the Generic reader with a 'generic' usb C cable from my charging station (this is why I was getting really frustrated) The '1039' image is the PROGRADE reader with the included cable and the ever so slightly faster '1043' image is the Generic reader with the PROGRADE cable. I shoot video as 3 camera setups and with a 4th as Run & Gun usually between 50GB and 100GB per camera. I used the Run & Gun cards for the tests. There was 50GB data in 234 files on the cards I tested, my 'work' drive is a 2TB Pcie NVMe card in a Dell Precision 3650 with 64GB ram. * The 'Generic' CFe B card reader with the PROGRADE cable transferred in 1min 23secs * The PROGRADE CFe B card reader with the PROGRADE cable transferred in 1min 57secs So, even in the real world the 'Generic' shades it. The next test I did was with SDXC UHSii cards - this time it was the PROGRADE reader Vs an Integral reader. This was using the same file set (I shoot the Run & Gun stuff to both cards in the GH6) * The Integral card reader transferred in 3mins 31secs * The PROGRADE card reader transferred the files in 4mins 4secs The BIG lesson for me in all of this is that not all cables are equal and I need to find the cables that came with the 'Generic' reader and stop using what I have just lying around!!! Despite discovering my foolishness I'm very happy to have made the purchase. The PROGRADE reader is well built, the cables are the correct connectivity, it looks as if it will be durable. I'm also happy that is says PROGRADE on it - emotions eh!? Once I find the other cables I'll have two fast CFe readers and get the ingests done in half the time - always assuming the usb busses on the PC aren't using the same channels... hope this helps

Excellent in nearly every respect. Fast and reliable. Only point to watch is for is the magnet, you don't want that near a storage drive, silly idea.

If you have more than one ProGrade card reader you can securely stack them on top of each other. You could stick the metal sticky pad provided to a laptop lid and then attach the reader to the back of your laptop screen. Seems a bit gimmicky and you only get one sticky pad. As a card reader this will read any brand of CFexpress B or SD card. Warning number 1. If you have ProGrade cards, you must have a ProGrade card reader to use ProGrade’s Refresh Pro software. Warning number 2. If you have a different brand of CFexpress card and need to update that card’s firmware you will need that brand’s card reader. You cannot update the firmware on other CFexpress B branded cards using a ProGrade card reader. So, in general you need to match the brand of card reader to the brand of the CFexpress B card for maximum compatibility. An expensive mistake I made not knowing about firmware updates for CFexpress B cards. What I liked 1) Well-made card reader, should survive travel well 2) CFexpress B and SD card slots 3) USB cables provided What I disliked 1) Slots are not spring loaded; you have to push in and pull out the cards 2) Does not support XQD cards, my camera can read and write to both CFexpress and XQD cards why do card readers in general only work one or the other? 3) Not fully compatible with CFexpress cards from other brands 4) Inner packaging is black plastic which is not accepted by my road-side recycling scheme 5) Magnetic base, I would want to keep this away from hard disk drives. Overall, a good card reader that is a must for 100% compatibility with ProGrade CFexpress B cards. Given the lack of compatibility with other brands of cards and lack of XQD card support I would rate this as three stars, for users with only ProGrade CFexpress B cards I would rate as five stars hence four stars as an average overall. I hope you found this review useful and save on making potential expensive purchases.

This is a very good quality card reader much faster than my old old one, plus it's magnetic too. Highly recommend.

This reader runs significantly cooler than others I have used. When used with the ProGade app, their cards can be identified, firmware upgraded check the performance/life left on older cards. Okay it's not cheep, but it is very good when combined with ProGrade cards. I'm not sure about the use of the magnetic mounting plate around electronic devices, I'll have to update this part for the better or worse in due course and experiance.

New camera... a new card... but my XQD reader doesn't do CFExpress B despite the form factor being identical. The new reader is lovely and reads cards blisteringly quickly. Horrifically expensive for what it is but that's the bleeding edge of tech I guess. Not found a real use for the magneticness yet.

This ProGrade memory card reader is quite compact, works well and is a decent price. If I have one small complaint it is that the USB lead supplied is a bit short at 48cm, so it doesn't quite reach from the back of my tower computer, but that won't bother most users. The reader is well built and has a magnetic base so it can be attached to metal surfaces. ProGrade have a good reputation so I am confident it will last.

Spot on bit of kit. Perfect companion for my Nikon D850. Super fast transfer rates and a magnetic base that holds tight to my BenQ PD2700U Monitor.

Has super build quality. Made of high grade plastic material. Supports UHS 2 sd card and cf express type b card at the same time. Very good reading and writing speeds. Comes with both type c to c & type c to usb cables. Has magnet at back to stick it to your laptop’s back. It is just expensive that I don’t like, but hopefully it will get cheaper with time and mass production. Thank you ProGrade and Amazon.

This reader stopped working after 1 month, how do I get a replacement, very unhappy.
