Does this work on a windows 10 operating system or is this only compatible on a nas server

It's a hard drive, it'll work fine under Windows 10 but this type of drive would be best for long term storage, i.e. use it to backup or store large files while using an SSD or better yet nvme drive for your boot drive.

Yes this is true. It's also quite a noisy metal case for the drive.
