Super helpful!
This book has been helpful for me when planning lessons for my students where I need to focus more in depth! The activities in the book are simple and to the point, it’s outlined very nicely for kids to understand what is being asked of them to do! I recommend to any teacher or parent!

Great Resource
This book makes starting Orton instruction easy! The sounds go in order, and you are given strategies and activities to teach the sounds. My struggling readers have gained a lot of confidence doing these activities everyday! It was a great purchase.

User friendly and helps kids!
I have used this curriculum with my 1 on 1 reading students and it is wonderful. The units are organized so that I can start students right where they need to be to personalize learning. Students learn how to say the sounds correctly (speech), how to segment sounds, how to spell and read. They learn phonics rules. There is review/followup. There are companion resources that go with this book, so there are a ton of resources for students. I also add in my own resources at times (such as alphabet flashcards). Easy to use and impactful!

Good guide for struggling homeschooler
Some background: My oldest (almost 8 yrs old) is likely mildly dyslexic (no need for diagnosis at this point, so it's just a guess based on observation) so we put off formal reading lessons until we felt she was ready (waiting until after she turned 7) and then turned to this book as a guide for a systematic approach. She knew her letter sounds before beginning this program. We finished the first (and longest) unit in approx 5 months with some breaks scattered in there. Overall this is a great book and could stand alone as a reading program or be used as a go-to resource in the classroom setting. I used some ideas from additional research to try and spice things up or keep the lessons interesting. For the most part, things are clearly laid out, it's very repetitive which is how OG lessons should be. There is built in review. It's really been just what we needed for our oldest. She is now reading diagraphs, cvc words, and plural words. And my younger daughter has benefited from it as well - at not even 6 yrs old she's reading on the same level as a first grader. The only down side is that I've found two errors within the last lessons and review pages - the use of a sight word that was not taught and a typo where quotations were only partially used (not closed), nor were they ever explicitly taught within the lessons (thankfully I've addressed this with my kiddo so she knows quotes mean that someone is speaking). We will continue with this book after a bit of a break and I expect it should get us through several grades of reading lessons. Overall, I'd buy this again because it's a straight forward, open and go lesson plan for an OG program without the outrageous cost of becoming certified to teach OG.Update: we are a little over a year into our use of this book and I recently discovered that free digital resources are available from the authors. I've just emailed them and they promptly replied with a link to those resources. My two children are now solidly reading multi-syllable words thanks to this book. We intend to use this book as our sole source for a reading program in our homeschool.

Informative and practical
I’m new to this method and new to teaching in the US, having taught elementary in the UK. I know that a substantial number of students have dyslexia and related language disorders, so wanted to enhance my knowledge. This book is book informative and practical. It gives background information on dyslexia, as well as a step-by-step phonics teaching programme. I feel that you could also use these activities with general learners, too.

Easy to Use, Highly Effective Resource for Improving Literacy!
I am thrilled that I made this purchase and now have such a wonderful resource to add to my collection. I took my time reading this book cover to cover and have learned so much more about what I thought I already knew. This OG approach to reading instruction is highly effective because of the explicit teaching paired with a multisensory approach. The book is nicely organized with lessons ready to go. I love that each lesson is very clear, easy to follow, and that it provides you (as the instructor) with background information on the WHY behind different rules of our language. It's important for our students to know the WHY behind rules, too, so this part is very valuable to me. Other helpful pages found within this resource include assessments and letters to parents/families. The pages for parents are helpful for them to understand ways to promote literacy in their homes. I do a lot of intervention work with struggling readers, mostly K-2. I am excited to begin using this resource with them and see the growth they make. I know it will be very successful. This resource will help all of your readers who struggle with phonics, reading fluency, and spelling. The authors of this book also have supplemental materials that align well with this book. So happy with this purchase!

Excellent resource for intervention
I am using this book to guide intervention in my 1st grade classroom, but as a former home schooling mom it would be great for that use too. Each lesson is clear and systematic and includes opportunities to read and write each letter as well as multisensory activities. Each lesson builds on earlier lessons and there are periodic mini assessments and progress checks. My students appreciate the variety of activities and I appreciate the word lists that accompany each lesson, no more thinking on the spot of words to match a specific sound!Over all it's a good value book and a useful tool to be able to draw on.

Great Resource
This book is a great resource for teachers in their small group instruction. The lessons are easy to follow and ready to use. I reached out to one of the authors Heather about the digital resource component and she was quick to respond and very helpful. This is a great resource for teachers and even parents- highly recommend!

Okay if using OG
Good book if using Orton method. Suitable for young learners. I wouldn't recommend it for literacy intervention for older children.

Helps me quickly get into using Orton Gillingham!
I love this book. The lessons are set out so well, so I know if I follow it, it will follow a sequence and slowly build the child’s knowledge. The authors have so many helpful resources on Teachers Pay Teachers that all work together with this book and give lots of ideas and options for presenting the material and keeping it fun. (I am a tutor.)
