MEA CULPA & The Life and Work of Semmelweis
A**E
Mea Culpa is Only 30 pages (the other book--Celine's doctoral thesis--is ~ 130 pgs)
FYI: this book contains two separate works, with top billing given to "Mea Culpa," about Celine’s trip to the Soviet Union following the success of his first novel (c. 1934). It’s a great story, and the sole reason I bought the book. But it’s only 30 pages long while the other piece, Celine’s doctoral thesis (in medicine), is more than 130 pages. (Even for me, a true Celineophile, this holds no interest at all.)But it’s not that you’d ever have this basic information – the length of each piece – before buying the book because it’s not mentioned in the description; and oddly enough, the sample leaves out the book’s table of contents (which is probably in 95% of all the samples I’ve ever looked at). Hmmm. (At least now that you know this, you can make an informed decision about this book, for a change.)
